Japan has apologized a lot, the problem is that apologies aren't really sufficient for the number of civilians they killed. We don't even know how many it is, but it's undoubtedly an eight figure number. As long as there are people alive who remember Bataan and Nanking and Comfort Women and Unit 731, I don't think there really can be closure on the situation.

I think you're being to pessimistic on the possiblity of closure.

My day was in nasty, nasty jungle fighting against the Japanese. It took him 25 years until he could be friendly even with Japanese-Americans, but he finally did.

I just saw some old film from the 50th-year reunion of veterans of the Battle of Gettyburg. The old geezers from the Blue and from the Grey were getting along great.

Even the bitterest enemies can become friends...given enough time.

Why are regimes now responsible for things that happened many regimes ago?

Oh also, I remember hearing once that the Soviets were on their way to help end the Japanese problem and the US wanted to finish it first to dictate peace.

Just like the government knew about 9/11 and wanted it to happen to benefit the economy?

Rather than asking if they've apologied or not, Japanese behaviour post-WWII shouldbe compared to German behaviour post-WWII. There was an 8 figure number of casualties in Europe too.

The US didn't want Japan turning red.
