Whats the point of an apology when we obviously wouldn't mean it?

And just my two cents, but if we hadn't droped them there it is my opinion we would have dropped many more on Russia and they on us with in 20 years of WWII to much greater effect. And no that is not a justification of the Japanese bombing, those stand on their own merit.

In reality, Japan was indeed finished... However, having already lost, and admitting it and surrendering are two different stories. If they had surrendered before then, we wouldn't have had to drop them. And, they could have surrendered after the first one.

it would seem that you don't let silly things like self respect limit your arguments.

Hello there! I see you are discussing Pearl Harbor conspiracy. Perhaps I can be of assistance.

Spec, people who live in glass houses should not gather moss, there is a growing number of posters bumping spammy threads in the name of Christ and the FFZ. 9-11 changed everything, at least you should read the Constitution once in a while. Bebro might quote from Ann Coulter's book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism:"

Ben Affleck: I should've died over there. When I was in that water, I made a deal with God. I told him I was sorry, I told him I knew I'd been a fool for leavin you and tryin to go over there and be a hero, and I promised I'd never ask for anything again, if I could just see you one more time... And ya know what? It was worth it. You kept me alive Evelyn, you brought me home. So I'm gonna stand by my end of the deal, I'm gonna walk away and I won't ask you for anything... but I just want to know why... Just tell me that will you please? Just tell me why.
Is there a bigger American hero in this land than Michael Bay? Cram it, liberals.

As I recall just before the first bomb was dropped the allies told Japan to surrender or else. Which the Japanese refused so the US dropped the first bomb and once again told them surrender or else. Once again the Japanese refused so they dropped the second bomb and told the Japanese to surrender or else. That time the Japanese listened.

In fact the casualties the US faced in the last battle, at Okinawa, were horrific, where a suicidal defense was put up. It was feared that an invasion of Japan would mean massive casualties, among American troops, Japanese troops, and Japanese civilians.

Among the American troops who would have been killed would likely have been my father, who was trained as a naval artillery spotter for the invasion.

That's true, too. Land invasion was out of the question.

I agree that there was a strong case to be made to do something like the atomic bombing in order to finally end the war. But I've seen documentaries and photographs and whatnot, and I can't help thinking that there just might have been some other option that ended up being rejected simply because the administration was gearing up for the Cold War.

Obviously the Fire Bombing of Toyko wasn't enough...

Hind sight is a wonderful thing. Who knows if another option might have worked. However, in the end, it did work.

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing about Hiroshima. Everybody *****es about Hiroshima. There's that old saying: "Hiroshima rages, Nagasaki prays."

Frankly, the one I really feel bad about is Nagasaki. Not only did the bomb go off in the middle of a valley basin, it struck all of the people most disliked by the Japanese--the Christians, the Burakumin, the foreigners.

The war was only good for our economy because we weren't bombed and everyone had to start buying our stuff.
