  • Bush vetoes Stem Cell Research

Bush vetoed his first bill ever today. The bill was to provide funding for embryonic stem cell research.

    LINK

Sen. Kennedy vowed to fight on for the funding, but as I see it, this will be a delay in funding for at least another 2 1/2 year until we get a new President.

Well, we all saw this coming. Can Congress get the two thirds majority required to overturn his veto?

Actually the Senate failed to overturn Bush's Veto.

As for defending this bill, Bush talked about the Snowflake embryo adoption program. The choice is always listed between letting the embryos go to the garbage or letting them be used for medical experimentation.

The real choice is that there are other much better options, if you can't look after these kids you can give them to someone else who would rather look after them then give them up for experimentation. I can't see why this would be considered a bad solution.

The sad thing is, there's no reason to have to make a choice. There's more than enough aborted fetus tissue to go around.

Bush's veto would be logical if the use of stem cells increased the number of abortions. But since that's not the case, all this veto does is to bar federal funding for experimentation into the most promising are of medical care ever.

Are you talking about adoption programs for bona fide people, or something else entirely?

It's a potential voter. In 18 years it might become a voter, so logically it's already a voter. Or something.

Oh, they've already attempted to overturn it? I didn't know that, these things move faster than I would have thought.
