Yanks are weird - approx 2.000 danes are currently pulled out of Lebanon paid by the state. Well, guess that it make us a third world banana republic on same level as france, germany and switzerland ( last country actually sounds like an african state).
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

The bizarre thing is that other countries provide the same service, but for free.

Nothing is free. I thought this had sunk in with most people nowadays.

I think it's reasonable to attempt evacuation for those who want it - then bill them later.

Then again... I really should stop using the word we to refer to any group of people. I could not possibly be more vague, and my flag/loc field is certainly not helping things

Yeah... it's just more convienient if all government services are all put on one easy bill... you know, your tax bill

sure, nothing is free but the costs shouldnt be billed to individuals in need of rescuing. it should be spread among the tax base who should be able to enjoy the benevolence of their government if they ever run into that situation.

These people would've had to pay for their return trip anyway. Why should the tax payers cough up for half of their holiday travelling expenses?

Besides, one third of the total number of ~2500 Danish citizens in Lebanon have chosen to stay on. I suspect some of them have.. some pressing matters to attend to in the countryside..

                        1. danes are the bravest souls on earth. FACT!
                        2. they most likely had their return trips booked already and this prevented it. and if you think they will be billed market rates, ha. Why should they have to pay for being victims of circumstance?

Furthermore why should i pay for methadone clinics, homeless shelters, etc etc with my tax dollars? im not on smack, and im not homeless?

                        3. the american government doesnt look out for it citizens like every other awesome nation is doing.

I'm sorry, but my sympathy is not for people who choose to spend their summer holiday in Lebanon, in view of what happened to our consulate and aid workers there earlier this year.

I think, but I'm not sure, one of our friends is in Lebanon. He might have come back already, but I don't know.
