    Frontpage Headline
    Lebanon Situation Update - July 15, 2006
    July 15, 2006

This information is current as of today, Sat Jul 15 12:20:12 2006.

A message to the American citizens in Lebanon:

The Department of State continues to work with the Department of Defense on a plan to help American citizens depart Lebanon. As of the morning of July 15, we are looking at how we might transport Americans to Cyprus. Once in Cyprus, Americans can then board commercial aircraft for onward travel. Commercial airlines provide the safest and most efficient repatriation options to final destinations.

The Department of State reminds American citizens that the U.S. government does not provide no-cost transportation but does have the authority to provide repatriation loans to those in financial need. For the portion of your trip directly handled by the U.S. Government we will ask you to sign a promissory note and we will bill you at a later date. In a subsequent message, when we have specific details about the transporation arrangments, we will inform you about the costs you will incur. We will also work with commercial aircraft to ensure that they have adequate flights to help you depart Cyprus and connect to your final destination.

The Department of State continues to work around the clock and will continue to send updates as appropriate.
Awesome. Well, that'll learn real good anyone interested in going to any ethnically terrorist countries in the future.

Honestly, I'm just amused by the fact that the Embassy is being truthful and telling 'em they'll have to pay to get out.

As if things didn't suck enough already there.

And since we all know how efficient the government is, I can't imagine that those taking the Embassy up on their offer will arrive in Cyprus with their luggage.

But seriously, its not as though Lebanon was this tourist destination in the middle of nowhere and then sandfleas attacked.

Anyone going to the middle east or any so called hotspot must be aware of the old adage "RISK VS REWARD"

If they are employed there then they need to understand this decision in the world climate today may result in severe consequences.

If they have married someone from that region and have gone to stay then they must know now what its like in the new family

If they are a government sent worker then they just realized why they are getting the extra Buck $2.38 on their paycheck.

I am sorry people suffer and I am sorry some locations in the world are unsafe, but when you acquire or purchase tickets to the front row of a performance, "BUYER BEWARE"

Dunno, Lebanon is a reasonable tourist destination nowadays. The north isn't too different from the Turkish coast.

Looks like france, germany and switzerland are too nice to their citizens
Why do they provide the transportation for free, while they could charge lots of money for it?

Well, obviously the French, the Germans, and the Swiss don't understand how capitalism can help them improve their backwards, third-world nations.

It's still a reasonable terrorist destination.
