Rate the G8 in order of importance

Oh and back to the thread question I still rank the countries in importance to ME as

1. Canada
2. US
the rest

In importance to the world, it really depends on what "important" means. Anyone can do a simple listing of GDP and military might and absolutely those things are important.


But "important" could mean looking also at the future and what it might bring.

It could mean having yet untapped key resources

It could mean having a large potential for growth

It might means looking at factors unrelated to economic strength (ie nukes make NK important )


Ask this question in your rankings . . Compare two countries and ask which you think will have the larger economy in 20-25 years-- Is this not as importan as the rank today?

well there is a lot to consider

Take the French-- what would the Yanks do without those Fries although I prefer their bread and onions soup-- and every couple-- how would they get along without "Frenching"

Germany-- good beer -- full stop -- really if you make REALLY good beer, you have done your duty to the world already

Italy-- well there is that soccer thing--

Russia-- other than the vodka and the AK-47-- they seem to be exporting hot women all over the world-- too bad they don't have enough to meet the need the Chinese will face

England-- err um -- I'll get back to you

well Canadians are pretty well aware of where we stand. Anyone that can read can see where we rank in population, military, GDP etc. Thats easy to rank

But "importance" is something different. ON an individual level I would think that any individual would have to rank their own country as most important to them.

Importance to the world is a different question. Imagine if the people , landmass, gopolitical entity -- whatever that is a given country was replaced by ocean 3000 m deep-- which would be missed most-- that to me is more a test of importance than anything

That's all you've got? You could have a billion people, 95% in poverty, and have a large number for total GDP. Try wealth, which would be measured per person, or importance which might be seen by exports.

GDP PPP per person: Canada 34,000... Italy 29,200
Exports: 364.8 billion... 371.9 billion

Italy barely exports more than Canada despite Canada having 57% of Italy's population. As far as wealth is concerned, it ain't even close.

And sorry, Canada influence in world affairs is zero, so i dont know as Italy influence can be less than zero. And militarly Canada is laughable.
