Sounds like shells have hit a town on the syrian side of the border:
Update 2: Not rumors anymore - 23 already have died in an attack on the village of Marooheen. Jdaidet Yabous is being hit, an area which is on the Lebanon-Syria border, but on the Syrian side.Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Both Israel and Syria are denying any bombing in Syria according to the AP"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Why does Israel respond so much more viisciously to attacks on its soldiers than it does to attacks on its civilians?

Report: Israel gives Syria 72 hours to stop Hezbollah activity
Then again, maybe not (see my next post)Last edited by Edan; July 15, 2006, 11:41."I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. First, I read the beginning, and then I read the ending, and then I start in the middle and read toward whatever end I like best." - Gracie Allen

I think there's a problem in the way the world approaches dealing with wars and confrontations.
The main ideal behind European attitudes is to save lives and minimize violence, and bringing about a stalemate or a status quo.
Eventually that attitude only leads to
prolonged conflicts - having not solved any of the unerlying reasons for conflict, both sides are required to restrain themselves. No side is really forced to make a decision changing its current stance.
unpunished agressors - always demanding the provocated side to restrain their reaction, means that factually provocateurs to do their deeds and remain unpunished.
This infact gives the upper hand to provocateurs.
If it went according to the european logic then the Hezbullah attack would have been left unanswered, and Israel would sit down to discuss prisoner releases.
If we objectively judge the result - Hezbullah wins 100%. Its operation is a success, it goes unpunished, and to top that - Israel gives in to Hezbullah demands, having no cards of its own, and having 2 citizens in captivity.
Admittedly - this is the safest and most 'peaceful' solution for Lebanese citizens.
However this obviously gives an upper hand to Israel's enemies and makes it 100% profitable to commit agression against Israel - knowing it is a "sure win" for Hezbullah.
It is however against Israeli interests to create a cituation where it is profitable to commit agression against it. Thus, realizing many people might be hurt in the short run, Israel must react in a way which will make future terrorists think twice.
The world community sees the cituation where 2 Israelis are kidnapped as bad, but not so terrible. Obviously for the world community, that isn't as "bad" as a war or as many dead Lebanese (citizens or militants).
Israel can not - and should not - judge its actions according to the best interests of other countries. Israel's top interest is and must be, the future safety of Israeli borders and citizens. A status quo which allows Hezbullah to attack Israel without fear - is intolerable. Israel can not judge its actions based on the interests of status quo.
Status quo does have the best interests of Israeli citizens.

And yes, good you are safe for the moment Az, Siro & Co.With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Keep drinking that Koolade, Siro. Your government benefits greatly from the low level violence. You get to use it as an excuse to continue stealing land and water from your neighbors, and preventing refugees from returning home. You will never have peace as long as you continue acting like bullies.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Yes, that's obviously worked over the past 50 years.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
