I'm only speculating because if two african blacks were running from slavers it only makes sense that they would catch the slower one. His genes would go on to help populate the US. Plus, there's white blood in the mix and we're slooow.

If they continue as a movement, then I can't see how its a bad thing.
It's a bad thing because they haven't any responsibilty in what their forefathers migth have done.
Their "I'm sorry" is worthless because they haven't done anything to be sorry about, and no matter what, they can't give any valid excuse on behalf of their forefathers - those might actually rotate in their graves because they disagree.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
I too am impressed by their gesture. I think we should find the descendents of the first Spanish and Portugese slave traders as well as the first slave buyers in America and ask them to make a contrition also.

Wouldn't it be appropriate to find some descendants of those arabic slavehunters that was just as active as the eouropeans too ?

Reading the article, the guy even admits that the elders of the village they went to didn't take them seriously.
Because I don't think anybody really can. And let me ask you, if the Africans don't take it seriously, why should you?
Let me share with you a story: My aunt was murdered in the woods outside her house. Her boyfriend took a shotgun to the back of her head and then blew his own head off. Now, if that boyfriend's grandson went to a soccer stadium (presumably of strangers, right?) holding a toy shotgun to apologize for the general sin of murder, what would that accomplish other than entertainment for some and pity for the guy from others?
Now, even assuming that my aunt's grandson was also in the stadium, and assuming the boyfriend's grandson mentioned the murdered person and the murderer by name, a) why would the rest of the stadium care and b) what is my aunt's grandson supposed to do? It doesn't bring back a family member. It doesn't punish the murderer. It doesn't substitute as an apology from the actual guilty person.
All it does is highlight the fact that one misguided person, who seeks catharsis for something he should feel no guilt for, has imposed his wounded ego on a people who would much rather be moving on with their own lives rather than watching the pitiful strutting of a self-mutilated bird that hates its own wings...but loves the attention.

This is stupid, people shouldn't carry the guilt of the sins of their ancestors. My Viking ancestors enslaved lots of Celts and Saxons, so what? Slavery was a part of most civilizations untill less then 200 years ago, what makes the enslavement of Africans by Eurpoeans so special?
@Odin: don't try to drag santy into this - it's all about evil western imperialism (not nessecarily seen from the african side)
