Yeah, but you all deserve it!

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

I would never apologize for something done by people I was not responsible for, in the recent or distant past. I'll never understand the practice.

People screw up all the time - sometimes on a grand scale and collectively - we're all human. But I'll be damned if I would ever take responsibility for mistakes I had nothing to do with.

I naturally feel overwhelming sympathy for all such historical wrongs, but that's a different thing entirely.

I was going to troll you for this remark alva, but realized at the last moment that I just declared myself pro slavery. Consider yourself lucky.

I'm planning to go back there to apologize for these guys' ruining what looked to be like a delightful ethnic festival. I mean, imagine if the Nazis showed up at every Bar Mitzvah, weepy eyed, handing out sorry notes and gas masks?

As a Celt, can I get a symbolic apology from the English?

I'm actually impressed by the symbolism of this guy's gesture. I just wanna know for curiousity's sake
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

The local elders were not impressed by the gesture, Mr Hawkins admitted, although their attitude softened after talks with the vistors.
Being actual men, they were quite likely confused and disgusted by his womanly display of self abasement.

What is it a symbol of other than inherited/collective guilt? Oh, and unbelieveably pathetic self abasement.

Yeah, I'm thinking of changing sides in this argument just because I don't want to be associated with that.
