I have never, ever, criticized France and Germany for treating Scientology as a cult.
You not,
but (at least in case of germany) your goverrnment did.
The german government got a complaint by the american DoS just 1-2 years ago, that because of the surveillance of scientology by the german state, they see the freedom of religion in germany impaired
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve." Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"
Obviously on a note published either just before, or shortly after Ron L Hubbards death and adressed to all his operating thetans Level 8 Hubbard admits that he is the antichrist, the Lucifer of the revelations of Johannes
In the note he also states that the christian church (and alnmst all religions except buddhism) are a plot of the aliens to take over earth.
Strange that christian fundamentalists who normally don´t hesitate to condemn everything out of their belief system never picked this up and spoke out against Scientology, just as vehement as they always speak out against gays
(especially the things he says in this note about Jesus are extremly interesting, too )

I will admit that scientology is one of the religions that I have no respect for, and don't think has any truth.. (that couldn't better be gotten from some pop psychology book)

BTW, cockroaches are not omnivores, they are scavengers. They are only omnivores in the sense that they eat meat and/or grains alike - the term 'omnivore' usually refers to animals that exhibit carnivore and herbivore tendencies.
Cockroaches do not kill their prey, and generally do not eat living plants, either. They eat dead animals and dead plant parts (seeds and other grains, typically).

Hmm, apparently they are either scavengers OR omnivores. I believe that the common house cockroach is a scavenger, however (the omnivore cockroaches are more the tropical kind).

Hey, we kept an eye on Hubbard for years--enough to provoke "Operation Snow White." We got them pretty good for a while. But they appear to have our gov't. by the balls, at least in some spots. The IRS's sudden reversal in 1993 or so, granting the CoS tax-exempt status after years of refusing, was especially suspicious. It probably has to due with David Miscavige taking over. A cult can only be so effective when it's run by a complete lunatic like LRH, whereas DM is by all accounts a tough little troll-man who takes no prisoners. Thank goodness for the internet, Tom Cruise, and a few brave critics helping to bring it all down.
JM: It depends what you mean by "cult," really. If the term is used to mean only a new, small, and unusual religious movement, yes, it's not significant. But the CoS is not unique, it's merely the most successful of many totalitarian religious or quasi-religious movements, which is what I generally use the word "cult" to signify. There are also the Moonies, LaRouche, David Koresh's Branch Davidians, and a smattering of other nutjob alliances out there. The distinction between them and your typical wacky new religious movement, like certain forms of neo-paganism, is striking.
No doubt there,
Scientology seems to be a cult which attracts many people who are successful and/or rich, probably enough of them in higher positions to warn the cult in time of any examinations about scientology that are underway.
They even have a document (Operation Quaker) with plans for such a case, which deals with relocating and hide all Scientology members which have to be heard by court just in time, so they cannot be questionedf by court, but at the same time don´t face charges for "fleeing prosecution"

Scientology is after one thing, your money. When they have it all, you are no longer of any use to them. Certain high profile actors, such as Travolta, Hayes, Cruise, etc., seem to have a special relationship with the cult. They are like the honey which attracts others, and so they don't get taken for everything they have.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Care to defend the Great Helmsman any further ?

I was under the impression that Ronlad Reagan was responsible for granting the Scientologists the tax status of a bone fide religion and that this reversal took place sometime in the 1980s. Reagan met with Hubbard who undoubtedly complained that he was a victim of persecution by "big government".
