Scientology thinks it's tough, but it wouldn't last long under an assault by Christian or Muslim fanatics.

For a variety of reasons. Maybe it's some kind of warm, fuzzy feeling you don't get elsewhere. Maybe they come get you when you're down financially, emotionally, etc. That's when a person's mentally vulnerable. I reckon it's the same thing with followers of Branch Davidian, the People's Temple, Falungong, etc.

Then again, the Vetican wants 10% of your income...

Falun Gong shouldn't be in that list.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Aye, it was a rhetorical question really.

Fortunately, Scientology's on its way down anyway, thanks to the years and years of bad publicity driving new members down. OC probably had a lot to do with it. Tom Cruise and South Park have really hurt too. A totalitarian cult like the CoS needs new members to stay alive, relying as it does on burning through human beings like fuel. Normal religions could skate through for a while on the children of current members, but not Scientology. Without new converts and their money, it'll eat itself alive and collapse.

Now, to turn our attention to the next mad cult that rises up to take their place. I've been hearing all sorts of fun things about "Dominion Theology," a wacky "Christian" movement that believes it has to establish God's kingdom on Earth by force of arms or some such, so Jesus can come down and take the reins on Judgment Day. I haven't done much research since the thought of it makes me ill...

Scientology is based off of early 20th century pop psychology...

Dianetics was widely popular for a couple years..

I haven't heard of Dominion Theology. I do know that Assembly of God is growing fast in the US.

I lost interest. Were it not presented in an unpausable, uncontrollable gif format, I might have given a **** about the message.

I tried checking wiki, and apparently the correct term is "Christian Reconstructivism" or some such. I heard about them through a blog entry on "Left Behind: the video game," which they support, and which will be a RTS game in which you control the righteous in post-apocalypse NYC, either converting or destroying the sinners and nonbelievers.

Sadly, I'm not joking about the game. I'm pretty sure the numerous articles the blog linked to about it were serious too. Apparently that Purpose-Driven Life guy is a closet supporter of the stuff...

This has always confused me. Why is the letter 'h' always used as a middle initial for Jesus?
