    Damned FIFA lawyers.

Yes it is. If neither team can satisfy (d), they won't satisfy (e) or (f), either.

    ACK!

You must still be watching as you placed the results between the teams (1-3) above all group results (4-5), the FIFA places all group results (a-c) above the results between the teams (d-f)

Only in case of 2 teams having the same number of points. If 3 or 4 teams tie (e) or (f) might apply...

the first 3 are down in one subsection in the copy I've got on my Excel sheet.

            • Okay, I wasn't thinking of a 3 way tie.

              • Journalists are funny. One week ago it was all:

"we trashed teh Ghana!!!! Must get the World cup!"
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

                • I think it's a shame that the US - Ghana game will be so impacted on both sides by honest fouls rather than play on the field.

It's a weakness of the WC.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                    • Taking somebody out of the next match seems too harsh for these fouls. Granted, not penalizing the players in some way seems not harsh enough.

There's nothing wrong with a physical game. The EPL seems the better for the rough-and-tumble play, at least the few matches that I have seen so far. Guarding against diving seems like a more important objective at this point.

Well you can have em (ie you're going for the ball but clip the bastard instead), but none of the controversial ones were of that type.

                        • It wouldn't surprise me if De Rossi got an extended suspension and possibly Mastroeni as well. For Asamoah Gyan though, who got carded because someone blew a whistle in the stands and he thought it was time to take the penalty, and got carded for doing it. For him I think there could be a valid appeal of upheaval of the ban.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

                          • Yep, the Gyan booking was poor. Hopefully he'll get it recinded.

This is not American football where players are wearing triple-coated kevlar armor. Most phyisical fouls can under the 'right' circumstances cause injuries that take months to recover from, or in the worst cases can even cripple players for life (as could've been the case with Mastroeni's action today). Those cards are usually given for good reason and missing one match is more than reasonable if you commit several of such fouls. Everyone knows the rules and players who take the risk of breaking them know what the consequences can be. Football is not a very physical game, it's a game of skill. If you want physical, stick to the American version...

When's the last time FIFA recinded a booking?
