I'm very glad that Zidane won't be there, actually.

France's main problem in this cup has been a dramatic lack of creativity and daredevilness. We were stuck with old tried recipes. Without Zidane, our team will have to think about how to win, and to be creative about it. Also, the individual players will know they have to compensate for his absence, and maybe they'll actually make an effort then

Many of Spain's problem can be traced back by language problems and/or rivalries.

I've heard that before but since I have no knowledge of one way or the other I cant refute or confirm it. What I have seen many many times though is that the teams with the biggest ego's can be psychologically beaten by that first goal against them. One notable exception was the 1982 Brazil team (who were probably the best team I've ever seen). Their ego was so great that it took 2 goals against them to burst their bubble. I'm not saying that these teams just roll over and play dead but that the flair that characterizes their style of play is lost in the rush to equalize the score. Since they are no longer playing 'their game' they tend to be doomed.

          • Fabregas looked awesome for Spain when he came on - their first two goals and numerous chances came through him. They have to be contenders up there with Argentina.

Yeah, FIFA hates Italy and they always have!!

I guess that's why Belgium has never been world champion either.
