I love Montreal. But I hate Quebec. But I love Canada. But the US makes me uncomfortable. But most of Europe sucks even harder. But the Japanese are ****ing weird. And everybody else is just poor.

Become residents of Ontario or New Brunswick for a time.
And yeah, that does suck for Quebec.
Very strange, considering the rep Quebec has as more liberal than most.
Errrr....they're "liberal" in the sense that they're socially progressive, even if they have to ram their idea of "progressive" down your throat.
The government of Quebec sticks its filthy little nose into all manner of things it has no business in. Language laws. This bull****. Corporate welfare on a scale unimagined in the rest of Canada.
Quebec is not the place to go if you want the government out of your hair. They spend half their time legislating **** just so that they can prove that they're different. That's where you get ****ing CEGYP.
Seriously, this marriage name change thing is a case in point. Feminists decide that a woman changing her name on marriage is an outmoded, paternalistic tradition. So the government makes it impossible to change your name on marriage.
People get afraid that the French culture in North America is going to disappear. So the government makes it illegal to post signs in English, or for French parents to send their kids to English school, or for businesses to operate in English.
The unfortunate thing is that some good ideas get caught up in the mass of **** that the provincial government regulates. For instance:
1) No-fault insurance
2) A rental control board with teeth
Let me tell you, I didn't really appreciate (2) until I was outside Quebec and had 3 ****ing landlords in a row steal half my security deposit for **** which was already damaged when I moved in.

What if I change my mailing addy to an apt in Montreal, and just claim residency when I ride the train in to vote?
It has to be your primary residence (meaning you sleep there more than half the nights) so it would be technically illegal. I don't know if they would catch you or not.
