Keeping the defenders there would correct that. If you think about, offsides makes defense way easier than it should be.
If offsides is removed, then drawing the defense up is another strategy to use offensively.
I think of it as soccer's version of the fast break, or the long bomb in American football.
It would open up the game a lot.
ACK!
Right. Another way of opening up the game would be to have two balls on the pitch at once. Picking the ball up and running with it would add a bit of spice too.

Yeah and having hooligans fighting in the stan...... oh wait......
ACK!

That's just bad defending - not a fault of the system. If you are good enough to judge the play then it will be obvious to the linesman when the forward is offside. If you step up for offside, but some idiot is too slow to realise what his team-mates are doing then the attacking team should have a great chance to score. It's a tactical decision whether to go with it or not, and if an attacker is constantly caught offside then his team-mates will have to change their system to beat the opposition's defence, instead of hoofing hopeful balls upfield.
Too bad. Of course, the Czechs were always gonna win it but it would have been nice if it had been closer, and based on effort the Americans deserved a goal.
Couple of a great goals though, and I hope Koller is okay, that looked pretty bad
Nice effort from the Americans, but their attack just didn't cut it. Reyna's good, though. First large victory of this championship, and three very good goals, two great far-distance shots.
I hope Koller can play again...

America had two really close misses. The one that went off the post was just inches away. Oh well.
The Americans just looked really timid out there. They kept trying to set up these plays and wasted a bunch of time passing it between themselves, but never going downfield with it. Then the Czechs would break it up anyways.
I also noticed how when the Czech goalie got it, he'd usually kick it downfield. But when the US goalie got it, he'd just pass it to the nearest defender for him to slowly work it up the field. Very slow, plodding, and ineffective.
As for the off-sides thing... what's to stop a defender from running away from his side to purposely catch the other team offsides?
Also, there doesn't seem to be any kind of shot clock system, so what's to stop a team with the lead from playing keep away the whole game?
