    Wrong thread.

{edit - it also proves my point I just made on that thread)

So who is paying this damn referee? That foul on Beckham was a red card if ever I've seen one. Not to mention that Crouch gets called on every ball in the air.

AAAARGH! American commentators! It's like listening to gossiping parrots. Beckham. Beckham. Posh spice. Beckham.

One said that because of the short flight to Frankfurt it's kinda like a home game for England!

I wish Joey Cole would stop being so one-dimensional and play the simple one-two with Ashley Cole now and again. Ash keeps making the overlap, but instead of getting the ball back to get behind the defence as he used to do with Bobby Pires or Thierry, Joey puts its head down and shuffles of in his predictable search of three opponents to try and dribble round - usually to no avail. Typical playground ball-hog!

Now I've said that, hopefully he'll prove me wrong by setting up another goal like the Crouch one against Jamaica.

I think it's a lot of first game nerves (on both sides) so play is a little disconnected. Paraguay is certainly a better team than they've shown so far.

Gods, what a poor match so far. Paraguay is playing with a glorified B team and England is being its usual mediocre self, playing everything through the air (although considering the light ball and Paraguay's poor history with this type of play I guess I can't hold that against them too much).

Let's hope Paraguay gets their act together in the second half (and brings in some more creative players) and we get to see a real match, or I might fall asleep on the couch...

                Not much

Hell, even the american parrot commented (between constant "Beckhams") that all the 50-50 fouls seemed to be going to Paraguay.

Well, that was more fun than Poland-Ecuador. Though England certainly didn't look like a team that could win the cup, based on this game.

No, they didn't. Early days, though. Teams don't have to peak at the start of a tournament to find some decent form later on.

"One-Nil to the Englerland!" rang the tune out on the PA at the end. Nice touch. Who says the Germans don't have a sense of humour?

The refereeing was very poor overall, it wasn't specifically aimed at any one team in the first half in my view. England was the better team so they got more disadvantage from it, only logical. In the second half the balance did seem to sway in England's disadvantage. But considering they managed to win despite their horrible play means they're in no position to complain...

The second half was worse than the first one. Paraguay was slightly better but still a long way from being good and England was a lot worse, they were outright atrocious, save for one or two moments. The highlight of the match was Robinson hitting that spaceship thingie, that pretty much says it all...

Well but you know that Brasil will play and win all the games on top form .

Well, Robinson managed to hit that TV set . And managed to give the ball away to Paraguay pretty much every time he kicked the ball out.

Yes, I laughed my arse off when the England fans whistled at the Paraguay players when they didn't give the ball back to England after the spaceship incident: it's not like it ever was going to go to an England player had that thing not been there

Funny, I saw a picture of it a couple of it a couple of days ago and my first thought was that players would hit that thing. Not really well though out (since it disturbs the game).

If the ball deflected from that TV back into the English net, would it count as a Robinson own goal ?
