Eh... indeed 2 years is plenty of time to continue to screw up in

You yourself agree that our strike in Iraq made them redouble their efforts. This crisis wouldn't exist right now if the US hadn't invaded Iraq. First of all, they wouldn't have accelerated their program, second of all US threats of force would actually be credible.
Alright, airstrikes. Whatever. Your blaming the cop for catching the burglar here. Any sort of nuclear activity in Iran is a threat. The problem didn't exist because of the US, the problem exists because Iran is trying to get nukes. We've had this argument before in these forums.

Woo! Let's piss off a soon to be nuclear power in a way that can't hope to shut down their program for good. Not to mention the propaganda for terrorist groups. All because we scared them into speeding up their nuclear program. You can't entirely blame them for not wanting to become the next target of Iraq-style regime change, can you?

If I was the leader of Iran, I sure as hell would want nukes.

Uh, Victor, you're about 30 years to late on that whole terrorist thing buddy.

And let's break this down: They sped up their nuke program in fear that we might find their nuke program to be a threat. Key words: Sped up. As in already had.

So, if we hadn't caused them to speed up their program then Iran getting nukes in the future would not have been a problem? It would have been butter, like, 5 or 10 years from now?

I wonder: does everyone here know about the (old) Javier Solana=Antichrist theory? Or is this coincidence?
"The world is too small in Vorarlberg". Austrian ex-vice-chancellor Hubert Gorbach in a letter to Alistar [sic] Darling, looking for a job...

Raids against troops, for weeks and months. If they steadily lose their conventional force, they will succumb. Let's get Kuwait to pay the bill again

Yes, clearly generating additional terrorist propaganda is irrelevant. There's absolutely no difference between fighting a handful of terrorists and fighting the entire population of the Muslim world. Therefore we shouldn't worry about pissing them off

And let's break this down: They sped up their nuke program in fear that we might find their nuke program to be a threat. Key words: Sped up. As in already had.
No, they sped it up because they knew we wouldn't be able to do anything about it once we got bogged down in Iraq, and because they knew that if they didn't complete it while we were bogged down in Iraq, they'd never have quite as good of a chance. Having a half-ass nuclear program isn't exactly a huge threat in and of itself. Having a nuclear program intended to produce a working bomb within a decade is.

So, if we hadn't caused them to speed up their program then Iran getting nukes in the future would not have been a problem? It would have been butter, like, 5 or 10 years from now?
If not we would have had the ability to threaten them with force credibly. We would have been able to wait out the current president and hope the next guy is more pliable. We could have done a lot of things we can't do now.
