This thread has been nicely UR'd. Without him even posting in it! Good job!

a few months after the Kent State shooting, there was a similar shooting at a black college in Missippi. In school we had time set aside to discuss that. I guess the NYC public schools thought that it was in the interests of civil peace to let 10 year olds discuss the racial implications of the shooting, etc, etc. I dont think it was till the Missippi shootings that we discussed Kent State in class. Maybe also that the liberalism of the NYC public schools was less ambiguous on issues of race than on Viet Nam.

I certainly coudnt forget that picture. Nor of the girl running from the napalm. Nor of the ARVN officer shooting a VC prisoner in the head.

Good for you, I mean, not... the other one.

Personally, I wish Tiananmen had affected Red China more, but...

As I recall it was just a couple of days later.
The two incidents gave rise to a couple of great lines in a Beach Boys protest song

They say they scared the troops
Thought the troops were battle dressed.
Four martyrs earned a new degree:
                        The Bachelor of Bullets..

                        Then down South to where
                        Jackson State brothers
Learned not to say nast things
                        About southern policemen's mothers
Supposedly, the police opened fire on a dorm because the students were yelling down insults about their mothers.

And a couple of days later, some students were bayonetted at New Mexico State.

That was a bad time in the U.S.
