  • Astronauts vs Cavemen. Who wins?

Assume neither side is armed at the time of the confrontation. Assume the astronauts are mostly former air force pilots rather than mission specialists and that the cavemen are mostly hunters who don't have their spears in hand.

Also assume the confrontation takes place on the surface and not in orbit.

I think even though they would be rusty, the astronauts modern training in unarmed combat from their military stints would allow them to easily overcome the cavemen even if the cavemen were somewhat more muscular from their more demanding lifestyles. The astronauts are probably also much better nourished and this should give them an edge as well.

Cave man may be stronger and physically tougher but our astonauts are no pussies..... they are physically buff too.

I'm staking my vote that the space man has had martial arts training.

Marine pilots, sure. Chair force pilots, probably not.

In all fairness, I know quite a few people in the air force who could probably kill me without breaking a sweat, and I only know one person in the marines (second-hand -- he's the brother of one of my co-workers) who is asleep 1/3 of the time and drunk/stoned the other 2/3 of the time. Still, I gotta figure that there's some truth to the stereotype when I even hear air force captains referring to themselves as "chair force" captains. (I don't know how far up the chain of command this extends, I don't know any majors.)

And I stand by my assessment of (air force) astronaut vs. caveman. People in the chair force might be able to kill me without breaking a sweat, but so could your average caveman.

Funfact: As a result of "domestication," human frames have become a good deal less durable over the years. A cro-magnon man, while fully human in the genetic sense, had a MUCH thicker skull than his modern relatives. Also he probably had better musculature, not from exercise but from genetic selection at the time tending to favor it. And the caveman diet was typically quite varied and rich, as a result of their nomadic lifestyle. High in protein.

So the astronaut's going down. He's only slightly better off than if he were wrestling a silverback gorilla.

Cavemen. One hole in their suit and the astronauts are done for.

in that case the cavemen will have serious difficulty before the fight even begins!

I think we'd better agree on locating the fight on the surface of the earth.

Depends where the astronauts come from. If they are from the military, then I doubt cavemen would have a chance. Modern martial arts are very nasty. Also, astronauts may bring swords or even guns to a fight.

no guns! That would just be cheating!

To be fair the cavemen can't have their spears or stone axes either.

Wouldn't the astronauts be several feet taller than the cavemen? Probably this would give them significantly longer reach.
