Caveman, no contest. I'm guessing most pilots have enough martial arts to get themselves in trouble and that's about it. Cavemen on the other hand have had to fight often to maintain or advance their social position/mating rights.

cavemen. Martial arts, what ever, doesn't play any part, except maybe gives astronanuts false sense of security. IT comes down to balls, and cavemen have more.

A typical brains vs brawn scenario (like Kirk vs the Gorn in Star Trek). Brains should win every time.

Lets not forget the fear factor. A caveman fears the unknown, that would be their first reaction. An astronaut would want to avoid possible hostile encounters. Therefore, in a first encounter, both sides would likely break contact (run!!!).

The astronauts would not hunt down the cavemen but the cavemen could be a pest, especially if the astronauts unknowingly remain in their territory. The astronauts could quickly fashion crude effective weaponry (bow and arrows, etc.) if they need to defend themselves.

BUt yeah cavemen would rip them apart as well and many other todays fighters.

I'm quite amused by 'ooh yaah this astrunuts, super tough dudes man, like soldiers and ****'.

What ever, go play with your toys people... the sand box is I guess under 10 but I'm sure you can find a clever plan to get there

Except of course they are able to use the brain factor, then they can win. In an even death match, bye bye moon men..

                  Result: Astronauts starve to death

Yeah, right. And it'll be able to shoot an arrow 4 feet before sticking into the ground.

I think taikonauts have a better chance. That's because humans are getting bigger and bigger. The prehistoric man was probably much smaller and lighter than today's taikonaut. Probably very muscular, but weight matters.

Not really. Anybody who does any sort of strength training today is probably far stronger than the average "caveman".

The astronauts are probably slightly overweight, in okay cardiovascular fitness and far, far stronger than the cavemen.

                        Astronauts win, without a doubt.

Huh? Why isn't my strike-through working?

Anyhoo as to the question at hand... it's gotta depend on the numbers on each side.

With larger numbers, the astronauts' ability to organise would probably win the day, with smaller numbers, the caveblokes' toughness and preparedness ought to win.

The astronaut would just sue the loincloth off the caveman the moment he first laid a hand on him. The caveman could plead mental retardation, but would likely still get a restraining order. So, in effect, it's a stalemate + one severely pissed off caveman, but whatta ya gonna do.

The people who view "cavemen" as some sort of ridiculously strong and tough creatures are ignoring the facts. Stone-age peoples discovered recently in untouched form in the Americas and Australasia display, in general, no incredible level of strength or toughness. While two centuries ago it was been true that your average "savage" was probably bigger and stronger than the average soldier of an industrialised nation, nowadays the prevalence of protein-heavy diets and regular physical training for large parts of the population have reversed the advantage.

                                Ignoring the facts!!!

                                Hey, it's what I do.

                                Now, first of all - I never said strong. : prissy_grin :
Although I have to admit, it's an image that's kinda hard to dislodge.

Secondly, 'toughness' isn't so easy to measure.
For example, the kids in the Indian Himalaya have this great game they play. Kinda like what the Yanks call dodgeball, except they can't afford fancy balls 'n stuff, so they use rocks instead.

That makes for one hardass bunch of 10 year-olds I can tell ya. And I can't help thinking that someone who has spent their life sleeping rough in all kinds of weather is still going to be a lot 'tougher' than the average westerner.

But then, I guess I was automatically assuming the fight would take place in some kind of forested wilderness, where being well habituated to the terrain and climate would offer a significant advantage. Obviously, that might not be the case.

So I really should ask; is this fight gonna be a 10-round ringside knockout, or a month-long survivor-in-the-wilds kinda thang?
