It depends on what cavemen you are talking about. True Homo Sapiens Sapiens cavemen don't have physical advantages, however neanderthals do.

Fedor is a monster. Croatia's Cro Cop vs. Bob Sapp would have been equally fine example that size isn't everything. But if you ever watched fighting sports you know that they classify fighters by weight for a reason.

Usually the percentage is much higher.
Much much higher.

Sure, but that's assuming they are from the same era.

Pre-agricultural man averaged slightly taller than today's average American man.
Source for further reading? I thought the lack of society resulted in a lack of interest for the nutrition of the children, which in turn created much shorter adults.
As we domesticated ouselves, like other domesticated animals, our bones became more refined, etc.
Uh... wasn't it the start of farming which actually dramatically thickened human bones? I mean, I remember reading from somewhere around 5 years ago that when some Europeans put some hunter-gatherer native Americans to organised farm work, their bones thickened 20-40% within a century.

Early agricultural humans tended to suffer from greater long-term malnutrition than hunter-gatherers, who occasionally underwent famines.
Hunter-gatherers also had a diet far richer in protein than early farmers.
I don't remember the source, but I saw a graph of human height starting in preagricultural times at ~180 cm. There was a dramatic drop to ~160 cm as soon as farming became the major occupation, then a slow but steady rise back to just under 180 cm as nutrition improved and animal protein came to occupy a larger and larger part of civilised man's diet.

True -- but average caveman just crushes John Q Couch Potato who has no training or fighting skills.
Astronaut at least makes it interesting. If you wanted to go for the modern super elite types you would probably pick a modern special forces type who learn how to kill with their hands and and who wouldbe likely to have some very good survival skills. Start one of those guys with a knife and I like their chances one on one with any individual combatant

What would be interesting is a WWE wrestler against a caveman. Sure the wrestler has the muscles, but they know no practical way of using them (unless they've been in lots of street fights). I'm being hard on them I guess. If they could get a grip on the caveman, he'd be toast. He'd be pinned and crushed. But it would be entertaining to watch.
you know who would win? the first to kick the other guy in the nuts!
