  • Yeah. I couldn't drive in today because the demonstration by my courthouse had the nearby streets blocked off. So I parked near Vermont & Wilshire took the subway in.

The lot I'd parked in was closing, so I took the subway bank and drove in...along Beverly, which is about six blocks north of the second march along Wilshire. Even with me going against traffic, Beverly was screwed up.

Man, that second march must be HUGE!

the shock of one day without illegal slave labor is bound to be much more then the shock of a year. and of course there is the issue that the businesses all support them in any event.

      • I remember when this was just about illegal immigrants. Then it just became immigrants. Now it's about worker's rights. What's next? Call it Intelligent Design?

            • Actually, I suspect that they realized that they couldn't get amnesty for illegal aliens by calling it that. So they then pulled in all immigrants. That makes it easier to blur the line. Plus, you get the added bonus of calling your detractors racist. But this has begun causing a backlash from legal immigrants.

My point is, that this is still solely about amnesty for illegal immigrants. Everything else is just window dressing to distract from that ugly truth.

                I would tend to agree.

                  • We actually did have large protests. But of course they waited till the sun was down and it was cooler.

It's funny though when one guys stands up against the immigrants, he's dragged off by police. Total bull****.

Why is it wrong to expect people not to break the law? **** illegal immigrants (specially the hot women).

I know we need workers, this is why we need immigration reform. But they are protesting that? WTF!!!!! What's wrong with a worker program. And trust me guys. My dad worked in construction industry. Those guys are often paid in cash. They aren't given checks, and taxes aren't deducted. It's bull**** they get away not paying taxes and get free medical care.

I will not back down from this issue. Yes I support the right to work in this country. All I ask is to change the laws to make it legal.

                      • I was in eastern LA county today I didn't notice much different other then the traffic was lighter then normal. I did notice a few of those small mom and pop place closed but not to many. I fact Montebello (where I was today) has a huge immigrant community but most of them are from eastern Europe or East Asia and are made up of people who came here legally. They didn't seem to have much sympathy for illegal aliens at least judging by the comments people were shouting at the TV in the Armenian restaurant I ate lunch at today.

I honestly can't think of any major Democrats who have urged students not to attend school. I did hear Judge & who ever on Fox radio claiming Angelides wanted kids not to go to school but that's a total lie. The mayor of LA was one of the first people to shoot down the radicals and say kids belong in school not roaming streets.

They also underutilize services when compared to citizens. While some are forced by circumstances to use emergency centers, the chronically sick never leave their home countries because the sick can't work. They also don't come here to get on welfare.
Well that accounts for those who work for "legitimate" businesses (with a nod and wink). But it doesn't account for the huge numbers of workers who work completely in the underground economy for cash. This includes the vast majority of maids, landscapers and construction workers for starters. They only pay sales tax, which even legal tourists pay.

                            • No amnesty, period. We do need to get our house in order and enforce our laws, and the best way to do that is to crunch down with great force on anyone who employs illegals. That means we need to develop a foolproof national ID system so that employers have no excuses and fraud is easily detected. Once that is in place many illegals will go home because they can't get a job, and their old jobs are being filled with legal guest workers.

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about or when you think Fox News assumed control over the AP and other organizations but it really is amazing to read your posts sometimes.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa renewed his call Thursday for parents to keep their children in school during Monday's scheduled immigration rallies, while the state Senate endorsed a boycott of classes, jobs and stores.
