  • I think I hit home with the comment about compensating for his uncle, so now he is running away

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

    • Me too.

It's always nice to see that there are at least some members of the PC Brigade willing to stand up and take one for the team.

      Rock on!

            Actually, it doesn't, son.

Speech is properly oral communication. Often, referring to writing as "speech" is an acceptable mistake. When you start using words like "elocution", it becomes less of an acceptable mistake. If you'd ever actually seen "elocution" in context, you would understand the proper usage much better than you can by reading a 2 or 3 line definiton.

Actually, it would imply boredom. I've never thought that the "last man standing" wins. My posts here stand for themselves. Intellectual cowardice is not standing for anything.

edit: feel free to get in the last word. If any of you manage to come up with something interesting I'll respond later. Then again, I might also respond if I feel like beating up 3 punching bags some more.

Kind of like calling Kaak a xenophobe implying him to be a racist by refering to his Texas lineage simply for posting a nonsensical humor piece. Yeppp.... thats standing for nothing. Strike that less than nothing.

                    There is hope for you.

                    Good.

Since mexicans that would be affected by the accomodations entirely fall into spanish speakers group, it works to say that accomodations for spanish speakers are accommodations for mexicans.
This is like saying that "Affirmitive action is an accomodation for Blacks," with no recognition of any other group affected by or subject to affirmative action. It ignores the fact that there are other people affected by affirmative action, as well as the fact that not all Blacks are affected by affirmative action, instead of accurately portraying the reality of the situation. The basis behind the OP, that these policies "accomodate mexicans," is at best a misleading half-truth, and at worse - as others have suggested - could be interpreted as bigotry.

                              • Everyone is affected by affirmative action. Some people positively, so negatively. As such, there is no need to state it.

And has been thoroughly discussed, only those who want to find bigotry and ignore what is actually there will find it.
