All I can say is we'll see how a "DVD" fares agoinst the leading players plans on the market. DVD will die as well as any legacy format when the support from the indusrty is directed into a new format... why are you so stubborn about this ? Yeah, when everyone agrees on a new format! When there are competing standards and one has the name of the older format, it's going to have a very big advantage with the public.

why are you so stubborn about this ?

Because I understand the value of a brand name, whereas you have no idea. Do you think the iPod Shuffle would have sold nearly as much if Samsung released it?

Err...you're the one insulting companies for supporting one over the other.

And are you talking about the "powerful brand names" for standalone DVD players? (Which both HD-DVD and Bluray have).

You do realize that Standalone DVD players sales are shrinking, while Media Center sales are rising? Do you recognize this as a trend?

Yes, seeing as we bring facts and you bring "probably" and comments about your hairy balls.

Thats a highly hypothetical quaestion and demonstrates your lack of understanding of economics. If Samsug had released ipod with itunes in 2001 im sure it would have been very popular. The key to the success of Ipod is how solid is is integrated to the itunes. You have both the hard ware and software dominance, the external and internal product. AFAIC the Apple brand itself doesnt have much to do with that succes with is supported by the relatively poor performance of the Apple Computers....

My question is why do you overvalue DVd brand so much? It simply has no grounds. Itsd like the Cassette and LP. when there a bigger and better on the market , they die out...

Wahts wrong with my hairy balls? You bring only inflated belief in obsolete brandnames where I bring the greetings from the future. Very drun ktoo. But its alright I can take both of you at the same time when I know I'm right

If you think that perhaps you should question your own understanding of economics. Other companies have players that the hardware can easily integrate with. However, Apple's reputation with the original iPod and each version of it, has had a MAJOR impact on sales of other Apple mp3 products. It doesn't matter that Shuffle can use iTunes. It looks cool and it's an Apple product. That's it.

People don't buy Apple iPods because of the integration with iTunes. If you think that, you are far more disconnected that I thought possible. They buy it for its style. Hell, that's why I bought mine. It's a very stylish piece of hardware.. and its got a brand name success. If you want what most are using, get an Apple. That way you'll be able to exchange music with all your friends easily as well.

My question is why do you overvalue DVd brand so much?

I haven't overvalued anything. DVD is a big brand name. Everyone refers to video disks as 'DVD'. When you have competing formats and one is 'HD-DVD' and the other is somehting else entirely, people will flock to the one that sounds familiar. I didn't realize that we had an HD-LP or an HD-Cassettee or something similar to challenge the new technology.

Whats with this "insulting companies" AFAIK I havent insulted any company and what difference to this discussion does it make if I say **** you to both Sony and MS? **** them and **** DVD and Blu Ray. **** Pioneer, Samsung,Universal and everyone else part of this mess.

Media Center technology is never going to cath up. Most people dont have 200 square meter houses where they need MS auduio visua AI. Its something that developed almost exclusively to MR. Gates private mansion.

Do you have a rack in some coset with amplifiers and music servers Asher? Because that what the MC is for....

I wont argue about this read some relevant studies/journalism and it will become obvious.

For someone who didn't know what MC was a minute ago, why are you lecturing me on them?

MC PCs are PCs loaded with software for DVD playing, TV tuning (and PVR/DVR functionality), etc.

I've no idea what you're talking about with 200 square meter houses and amplifiers and music servers. Actually, most of the people I know with them live in a dorm room...

You can't be serious. iTunes is 50% of the reason people are buying iPods?!

Go into any Apple store. I guarentee you that the newbies (to mp3 players) you see are marveling at the thinness of the player and elegance of the click wheel. Not ooohing and aaaahing over iTunes!! Most people can care less about iTunes!

What makes You think I didnt know what MC is? In fact I was able to choose if I wanted my laptop with MC and decided not to....

MC PCs are crappy wannabe set-top boxes that directly compete with Xbox 360. the uses of MC are limited with only 6 speakers and 2 displays as in my case. The pros of MC come obvious only after multiple room audio video systems such as featured in magazines like T3....go figure

Hmm...no, the pro is that it's a unified featureset for media.

That's why it's selling well, and that's why standalone DVD players are faltering. Why do we really need 3 optical drive readers in our living room? We don't.
