One of these points is the diference in the quality of HD EU wants primaruly 1080 where the NA wants 720. MS has the ability and the pedigree to gamble way more than Sony will. As you said, Playstation is their bread and butter these days -- not something you'll gamble with. MS has way more money to invest and huge profit margins to play off of, and Sony is teetering on the edge of profitability.
For MS it's a strategic move more than a business move -- especially with Sony saying Linux will be on the PS3's harddrive. That's a huge threat to Windows, MS' bread and butter...
That is why they don't bat an eye sinking billions of dollars in losses into Xbox, and that is why Sony is in a bad place trying to push an expensive new standard against a company with deeper pockets and less to lose.
What comes to the bread and butter I would be surprised if Sory wasent going to be able to convince the Japanese industry to throw in some additional trillions of yens to defent Fortress Japan. What is with you and your big resolution nonsense?
The vast majority of US HDTV content is 1080 already, as are the vast majority of sets. Xbox 360 can output 1080 as well.
The difference is 1080p. 1080p/60 isn't fully ratified last I checked, and I'm pretty sure no TVs available even support that. 1080p is a non-issue and will be for about 7+ years."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
