I know I shouldn't get excited about sweeping the Cubs, but...
...I'm starting to think that the Tigers have a legitimate chance--just a chance, mind you--at making the playoffs. Certainly not 50/50, more like 30/70. But they've got a shot.

I think the Tigers have a very realistic shot at the playoffs. They're a good team (not great, good) and then have played well against lots of teams. Their struggles against the Yanks & Red Sox are of little consequence b/c they don't play those teams much. Their struggles v. the White Sox do matter, but might not be enough to keep them from winning the WC.
The Yanks, Red Sox and Blue Jays figure to beat up on each other in the AL East, and it's pretty clear that the AL West isn't going to produce the WC.
I expect both the Tigers and the White Sox to make the playoffs. I'd like to see the strength-of-schedule numbers (both for current record and for future opponents), as I feel like the Sox have had a much harder set of teams to play, but i'm not entirely sure. They've certainly beaten the Tigers thoroughly anyway... and why couldn't the ****ing cubs win ONE game against them ...
Anyway, i'll be happy if the Tigers get the WC. a) means the Sox win the division; and b) means the Sox play the weaker division winner, instead of the usually stronger wild card team.
I'm a strong believer that the top team in the league should play the weaker division winner rather than the wild card regardless of divisional matchups... unless the wild card is weaker anyway, record-wise. It sucks to have the AL top record and still have the hardest path through the playoffs...

I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.
As a Yankee fan, I can relate to that feeling... I think the Yanks bumped into that several times. But on the whole it's a pretty minor concern, IMO. Unless the Yankees are setup to play the Angels. Then it SUCKS!
Speaking of the Yanks... thank the baseball gods for Arthur Rhodes!
And you can thank Torre for pulling Villone for Proctor/Myers.
I remember years when Rhodes was in the AL... he'd have an era of like 1 against the league... but 5 against the Yanks. They just own him for some reason.
Just seeing him makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside. Ah, that 3-run homer he served up to David Justice in 2000 to set up the Subway Series. Good times!
Hell, if they get swept in all three series, they'll probably STILL be in 1st place in the NL East . What is it, a 9 game lead over the Phils?
