  • At this point, "is he on HGH" is a question you either ask of every single player or none, I think.

Bad pitchers and skinny powerless shortstops have been nailed for 'roids too. It's not just the sluggers.

    • Some other rookies I've never heard of but who are (in limited playing time) tearing it up:

      Nick Markakis (BAL)
      Mike Napoli (Angels)
      Ian Kinsler (TEX)

      • Hmm...

Howard isn't showing up as a rookie in the ESPN stats section... did he lose his eligibility last year or something?

edit: he played in 88 games last year, which I think would do it. He's surely an exciting young player, though.

          • Sweet. Great game by Wang last night to stop the bleeding. Yankees win 1-0. Those scores have been rare the last few years. The Yankee offense continues to sputter, but the defense has been good (notwithstanding Phillips' hiccup in the 9th).

Happily, the Red Sox managed to lose a game they led 2-1 in the 12th, so it's a first place tie again. Tavarez is to Red Sox as Farnsworth is to Yankees. And that might not be entirely fair to Farns.

Meanwhile, Imran's Mets keep tearing up National League.

And Detroit still has the best record in the league.

              • Good for them. I doubt very much that will last, but enjoy it while it does.

If they can swing a trade for a good, patient hitter, however... you never know. I wonder if any such hitters are/will be available.

Yet, they are the second best team in their division.

                          • Baseball is such a crazy game.

1-5 hitters in the Indians order (quality hitters): 0 for 14 with one walk.

                            6-9 hitters (mediocre & flat-out bad hitters) go 9 for 12 with 3 doubles and a HR.

                            6-1 Indians. Meh.

Err... Howard kind of... won the Rookie of the Year award last year, Arrian. Would probably put a crimp on him winning it again .

And Mets . Though the 8 game win streak came to an end tonight . At least it wasn't to a division rival .
