    The latest excuses...

    In Mini, the overhead shot was not of good quality, so the video judge couldn't see the dark blotch (puck) with white (ice) between it and the yahoo side of a dark line (goal line). Yeah right!

    In Chicago, the overhead was 'not working'. Uh-huh...

      It's even more inexcusible that high-definition television feeds are available for people at home, but not in the replay booth and goal judge booths. WTF?

        Something has to be done about it. One video judge has been fired already (I have heard). Maybe fine teams for shoddy equipment in their buildings that is inexplicably 'not working' during the period the home team is in that end?

        But it's not just the goal judges. Last night against Detroit there were several very questionable calls against the Oilers (finishing a check was interference) while Red Wings who boarded people got off. Once Detroit was up 2-0 it eased up, and Detroit actually got called a couple times, but... there was a lot of knashing of teeth in Oiler land, to put it mildly.

          Those calls have happened all the time to all teams. Calgary has lost important games against Vancouver and Edmonton based on nonsensical calls (like the phantom "holding the stick" call on Huselius who was only guilty of having both his hands on his own stick that let to a Vancouver win).

          Last night Calgary was also the victim of selective enforcement -- if we so much as touched a Duck it was a penalty, while the Ducks got away with two blatant interference plays with no call. Luckily Kipper isn't human.

            I've seen it go the other way too, but lately...

            Patience is a good thing. Hopefully it will improve over the next couple seasons as the new officials gain experience and the new rules are more evenly applied by all.

            These playoffs are going to be a hoot though. Especially the first round where there aren't going to be many spare officiating bodies so the worst of the worst are going to have to be used.

            Get your earplugs out. There may be some screaming.

                They have to.

                If you have another Mini-Edm or Cgy-TB situation in the play offs, the credibility of the game takes a big hit.

                I saw the same piece. He said they've only blown 5 or 6 calls with video replay. 'Only'?!!!! Is Walt Disney running this league with a certain mouse running the officiating?

                  SJ over Vancouver in OT 5-4.

                  SJ clinches the playoffs (Vancouver can't catch them and Edmonton loses a tie).

                  Colorado could lose all 3 games left, and Edm and Van could win all to both get in, but in realistic terms the magic/tragic number is 4.

                        Just back from a short work trip.

                        Kipper's single-handedly keeping me in this thing! A couple of my guys are sputtering offensively, but I think I can make up some ground on the offensive stats with some luck.

                        Wow - NYE wasn't kidding about pulling out all the stops for the final. In the period of the final matchups, he's made 18 moves to my 3!

                          It was Vancouver's sixth loss in their last five games.
                          Vancouver is so bad they are doing the impossible.

                              He should be doing a lot better relative to Phaneuf considering what his job is vs Phaneuf, and considering Phaneuf plays within the Sutter system where if a defenceman doesn't play well defensively he'd be benched. McCabe would never work in Calgary, for instance.
