No, JM, I knew she was my boss. What I didn't know is that she's an observant Catholic. There isn't anyone else in the workplace that I know of who are public about their faith, aside from a few discreet crosses and crucifixes here and there (usually as jewelry).

I find this trend appalling, I mean how are guys going to get laid now that you can't tell the catholic girls from the protestant girls?

Nah, probably just more SDA judaizing, seeing as we fast. (though not on Lent )

Everyone eventually returns to Holy Mother Church.

Makes it easier for us atheists to deal with you in one attack instead of having to hunt down your various denominations.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

so I guess today is that day where catholics spread the ashes of jews or witches on their face or something?
Yeah, it was Ash Wednesday yesterday. Start of Lent and in 5 weeks we will have Easter.

Is this something that is going on throughout the Lutheran church, or is it just a local phenomenon? maybe my aunt just has a nutty pastor or something.
From my perspective there is a general movement from mainline churches, Anglicans and Lutherans especially, to either Catholicism and Orthodoxy. Lutherans and Catholics have been negotiating some form of union for a long time now, since the Anglicans have drifted away.

I have to admit that I didn't go. Hard to get around without a vehicle in this town.

The priest that came to the place i was at that was giving ashes for this day was using a cross stamp and a stamp pad. i was like how funny is this, an assembly line of people being poped in the head with a rubber stamp of a cross
Yeah, that's a shame. Why don't they use the actual ashes?

The ashes have always been around in the Episcopal Church, but they're optional. Frankly I've never had time for them.
Actually in the US the Lutherans and Episcopals already have a sort of union. I guess we'd be willing to accept the Roman Catholics.

Well, it turns out she's an observant Catholic! And my boss! She took it all in stride, though, since I really thought she'd gotten hurt or something.

Yeah could have been even worse if ya had taken your napkin and wiped the smudge off.
BK most places use real ashes this guy didnt. I am catholic but i didnt want to do the service, besides i was already hit in the forehead by my daughter and then again in the same spot by a dr i work with, figured another blow to the for head would put me in the hospital

I just figured it put you one up on me since I missed the service myself.
