    That's what I don't understand.

The Japanese were more brutal, barbaric, and bloodthirsty than the Germans. Yet they are seldom adomished, even though they did not make an "atonement" like the Germans.

Yay let's show how we as a society do not want to ever see fascism ever rear it's ugly head by...creating a fascist oppressive law.

What makes you think Midwest Americans do not travel abroad??

I'm from Iowa and I have been to Ecuador and Peru. I would like to travel more, but not all of us can afford to travel more frequently -- it could be more of a money issue for many of us, rather than close-mindness.

But thank you for your stereotype of those from the "heartland."

I'm also from rural America, Mr. Fun. (I grew up in the Appalachians). I know some of our people have traveled abroad. My brother spent a year in Argentina. I also know that there are plenty of xenophobes who know little to nothing about the outside world and don't care to learn. I was just using it as shorthand for the typical "America can do no wrong" attitude that is the norm in rural America, not as an assertion that no people from rural America have traveled. Thanks for missing the point, though.

This is why singling out the Germans is stupid, hell they APOLOGIZED for the bad things they've did (which the Japanese have never done). For Christ's sake, let them be pround of thier country again with out having to apologize all the time, reminding people about history what history classes are for.

Yeah, its interesting to see who agrees on this issue. It doesn't seem to be related to political beliefs.

"Kill all Japanese" They've certainly been admonished numerous times. If you want a country that hasn't been admonished for its recent atrocities, look to China. Now the West certainly had a different attitude toward Japan's WWII atrocities than it did Germany's. However, this is true for their attitude toward China and other Asian countries. Those in the Middle East probably would garner such attention, if there wasn't so much national interest involved there.

As for atonement: yes, Japan didn't atone like the Germans. However, over the past several decades they did give billions to China and South Korea to help bolster their development. Japan also leads in many worldwide humanitarian efforts. While their method wasn't the same as the Germans, it is wrong to hint that they haven't atoned at all and deserved to be further admonished.

and even more funny: we may or may not have tried to enforce our values by issuing a stupid law (which whom i never agreed btw). i know however of another country who does the same by dropping bombs and killing people. I'll let history decide which one is the lesser evil.

There is a difference- in intent, and in organisation.

Stalin killed more Slavs than Hitler too, through terror (liquidation of the kulaks, anti-Polish and anti-Ukrainian measures, purges, deportations and inept economic and agrarian policies).

It isn't however, simply about numbers, as if the Holocaust were just a grisly variant of a bingo game- Hitler's focus on the Jews was pathological, irrational and served to undermine Germany's economy.
