Geert Wilders entered the parliament on a VVD ticket, but has left the party since. There was some row between him and the party on something I forgot, but in any case related to the party stance on immigrant and/or muslims (AFAIK the two don't really differ in Geert Wilders' view, but I can't be arsed to discover the finer details of that)

On related news, the guy has seen several death-threats allready (alledgedly by islamists) , and is on maximum security like Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Well, you can't win everytime.

The VVD (People's Party for Liberty and Democracy) is a right-wing party, ranging from old-fashioned liberals (in the European sense) to the almost loony right.

Wilders is just another Fortuyn wannabee extreme right-wing nutcase. He even made me vote in favour of the Euro constitution last year, just because he was against it

I think this is a fine expression of some of those EU values.

I agree that there should be some level of... taste, when dealing with issues such as these, and the religion of Islam. I do not encourage trashing muslims, that's like trashing half the globe almost. However, it comes down to a point, where you have to ask yourself, what is acceptable level of expressing your freedom of speech, I mean, if you want to draw a picture of this dude, is it OK? If you say, it's crossing the line, since it's kind of taboo in Islam, well, how far are we ready to take it? If we can't draw, should we also follow some other practices and take into account that large group of people might be offended? Should we also denounce Israel as a state? Who knows what ticks people off, I say let's use common sense, if this ticks off people, then so be it.

BUt I wouldn't go down to active slandering campagns, trashing their religion and people. Because that's just not cool, but this? This is small potatoes and they just need to stop their racism against us and accept us.

Nah. Not your cup of coffee? don't drink it, switch to another channel, pick up a different newspaper. Some people are offended by porn, "jackass", "Queer as folk", and whatever the **** else - as long as there is no libel, and there is a variety of media, I see no problem with this.

I was trying to bring a point for those who defend this outraged feelings, that where do you draw the line. Here? Cartoons? wtf! I mean if you accept that, it goes further too, and soon you live in Taliban-land for all I know, and you become submissive little b*tch.

However, I meant that level of taste I understand that people would get outraged. Not that it should be outlawed or prohibited. I understand people getting outraged when seeing baby Jesus eating fetuses on live tv. Should it be legal? I don't think it should be illegal, let's put it like that.
