Summary: He characterized the reprinting of the cartoons by the Norwegian magazine as "unnecessarily hurtful", but would not apologize because it's a free country. He was also not very happy about the flag-burning.
I'm not going to go look for it, so let's just assume that it is as you say.

    • Weren't those cartoons posted here a couple of months ago? Or a link to them? I remember having seen them. Maybe all of us here are in trouble

If the cartoons I saw are representative of Danish humour and/or the drawing talent of Danish cartoonists then there really is something rotten in Denmark. Bad drawings and not funny. Kinda like Islamic cartoon humour I suppose...

I'm with John Cleese on this: "No one has the right not to be offended."

But I also think that if you want to offend someone or want to see where the edge is you have to do it in style. Bad drawings with boring jokes are not the way to do it. Heck, if they joked about me in such a way I also would burn a Danish flag. And kick a couple of Swedes just for the heck of it.

          • Well, yeah, I'd love for someone to make the movie "The life of Omar" but I doubt they would be willing to even entertain the thought for more than 5 seconds, mosst of which they spend trying to forget about it...

What was it Cleese said? "Four hundred years ago we would have been burned at the stake for this. What I'm saying is that we have made progress". Well...he was partly right...
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Of course it is as I say

Actually I'm also a bit confused as to what have been said and when. I haven't really been following the news much lately. It's always the same: some crap about Islam and unshaven people with AK-47s who burn stuff.

Interesting parallel to the Madrid bombings, by the way

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                      • The Editor-in-Chief of Jyllands-Posten, Carsten Juste, tonight concedes defeat and states that the opponents of freedom of expression have emerged victorious from the affair concerning the caricatures of the Profet Muhammed, according to Danish media reports.

"They have won. This is the scary reality of it. I would wager that nobody in Denmark would draw a picture of the Profet Muhammed for the next generation to come, and I must therefore, deeply ashamed, conclude: They have won." says Carsten Juste.

The editor adds that had he known of the consequences beforehand, he would not have made the decision to print the drawings.

"Had we known that it would lead to boycotts and that Danish lives would be endangered, as we have seen it happen, then the answer is No. It would have been irresponsible. Sometimes the costs are just too great." says Juste.

No, that's because Norwegians are just a tad too big for me. And Finland is full of pekka's

                          • Sooner or later the west is going to have to accept the fact that Islam runs counter to everything the west believes in. We're either going to have to accept it and knuckle under to their threats, or we're going to have to fight the war. I think this will be the shot hear round the world that will be the rallying cry for those opposed to Islamic policies to rise up. If everyone on Apolyton can unite behind this, I have a feeling the rest of the civilized world will too.

                              • Is there a risk/chance that the christian world could ally with the muslims in an attack on Norway ?
