I dunno, will Vinatieri be as clutch, kicking indoors without the cold, the wind and the snow?

I think Alex Smith had bust written all over him. He was a guy from a mid-major school that played in a very non-traditional type, wide open offense and put up major yards. That's the exact same story behind David Klinger (University of Houston) and Andre Ware (also University of Houston). He may succeed, but I'm very skeptical. I'd have rather taken the other Alex Smith (the Stanford TE) in that draft

      • I would have taken Rodgers first, no doubt. It seems like Frye is the best of that draft class so far, though.

Rodgers is a Tedford product. They don't have a good track record (Harrington, Kyle Boller, Akili Smith, David Carr). I wouldn't have touched him unless it was in the 3rd round or lower.

Frye seems like he might be good, and I'm interested to see how Jason Cambell turns out.

If I were the 49ers, I would have taken Braylon Edwards

          • I would have taken Rodgers first if I were looking for a QB. But given the relative weakness of the quarterbacks in that draft, and the weakness across the board of San Francisco, they should have looked at other positions.

The team was absolutely horrid, and it's no place to develop a rookie QB. Better to build up a solid team and have a journeyman veteran QB work the offense. Guys like Warner, Brunell, and Bledsoe still have some left in the tank, and you can be assured of decent production. Meanwhile you build up the franchise elsewhere. If the rest of the team is good, a rookie can develop pretty quickly- the Roethlisberger model.

            • I think Cutler is the most NFL-friendly of this class.
              Great arm, classic dropback guy.

Leinart's arm strength is a concern.
Young scares me -- could be scary bad or scary good.
