Are you ready for some FOOTBALL! - Hot Stove Edition
i don't go to those places often... mainly because I say nice things about the Bears
seriously, though, if your only argument is that the Steelers had players who were good and Seattle just had an easy schedule then you are nuts
IMO, the AFC was the stronger conference this year but how can you argue with the numbers Alexander put up this year and say their offense sucks? Not to mention how well Hasselbeck has played this year? Lets talk who is not being serious...

Do you even know what we're arguing about? I never said that their offense sucks. Alexander and Hasselbeck had great years. I don't even know where those comments come from... they're not even at issue here.
You started out by claiming:
the Seahawks are a few years of dedicated work to this whereas the Steelers and Big Ben just feel into this position.
I said that that was wrong, and I pointed out why. Instead of bringing a rational argument supporting your previous assumption, you respond to my post with:
with a wild card team such as the Steeler, I can say that they "feel" into it with greater certainty.Good players? yes
Players you build whole teams around? Pro Bowl players? No
Seattle has given us the most productive offensive player ever.... and it was done by Holmgren and his years of discipline and hard work
not
by Cower's sideline debates or charisma
yes, the steelers have good players
no, they do not have a team worthy of a ring
I truthfully don't understand what you're talking about here. I can make out that you like Holmgren more than Cowher and that Shawn Alexander has been outstanding.
I agree about the Alexander part (how couldn't you?), and I partially agree with the Cowher part.
The stuff about not having Pro Bowlers is completely wrong, and the "not having players to build a team around" doesn't even make sense. If you have a group of 10 -15 players that consistently play at a very good or higher level, some of them making multiple Pro Bowls, and that group repeatedly goes deep into the playoffs, how in the world can you say that you can't build a team around those players? That is the definition of building a team. Maybe you personally feel that you can't build a team around them... that's your opinion, and you're free to have it. It's just not supported by a shred of logic or evidence.
After I post that, you respond:
I hate to be Mr. Whathaveyoudoneformelately
That completely contradicts your entire premise, the premise against which I have argued. You claim that the Seahawks have built this great team over the years, full of great players around whom you can build a team, and thus they deserve to win the Super Bowl. You implicitly argue that the Steelers haven't done the same and have undeservedly fallen into the playoffs, as if the Steelers players themselves are not good enough to deserve the trip. I point out that you're completely wrong, that the Steelers have a core of Pro Bowlers that have been together for years (in short, completely disprove your assertions). Your response: Whathaveyoudoneformelately? The whole argument was based on the fact that the Steelers have been a very good team over the past 5 years and still are one this year, one that deserves it shot at the Super Bowl. At least half of the argument is based on past performance and team cohesiveness. Given that, your response makes no sense whatsoever.
the Steelers got here by luck and heart.
You accuse me of disrespecting the Seahawks, but you type this? Besides the fact that it is completely lacking in evidentiary support, it also is disprespecting a very good team. It's your opinion, but you've backed it up with no rational argument. It's just there.
Ain't saying that... the easiest schedule? that is the most BS reasoning I have ever hear.
And... I won't say that the Seahawks got here by luck and heart in fact I am saying exactly the opposite the got here by hard work and good ol' solid planning.
The fact is that the Seahawks have had a very easy schedule. It was the weakest schedule in the league. Go look at it. I'm not saying that they aren't good. The Seahawks are a very good team, and they deserve to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. However, the critique of their schedule is at least a coherent criticism upon which criticism of the team can be based. It's a position based on facts. Your criticism of the Steelers is completely based on your emotions, and most of them (like not having Pro Bowl players) are completely false.
The Seahawks undoubtedly made it this far because of planning and hardwork. You're implying that the Steelers haven't. I don't really know what that means... any team that makes the Superbowl has to have put in plenty of planning and hard work. I think that you're addressing the classic knock on Cowher: that he's a motivator, not a thinker. That's true, and it's one of the things I don't like about Cowher. However, if that's what you're trying to get at, then you're completely overlooking the Steelers' great coordinators, esecially Dick LeBeau. You don't think Dick LeBeau is a great strategist? Maybe you should ask Manning or Plummer.
i win
Based on the incoherence of your argument, I seriously thought that you were just trying to get a rise out of me. (In fact, I'm still pretty sure that that's what you're doing.)
Look, I'm not trying to convince you to root for the Steelers. I just thought that your inital post was so unfounded and bizarre that it merited a response.

Unlike past years, there has been little Super Bowl hype during the past week. But now, with the Super Bowl week upon us, let the real hype begin. Personally, I just want to see a good game, and get lucky in all the box pools that I'm in
I don't think anyone seriously thinks that Pittsburgh is the #6 AFC team anymore.
That said, the Steelers regular season record shows just how tough an AFC schedule can be these days.

The Steelers as a 6th seed is a bit deceiving... they lost two games in which they had to start their 3rd string QB and a rookie LT. Had Roethlisberger played all 16 games, I'm pretty certain that the Steelers would have finished at least 13-3.
