I keep bringing it up because somebody on this site keeps talking about how it's yet to peak. And someone on this site refuses to listen to sensible talk about how the stock is overvalued and will go down to normalize.

Apple posted a record quarter and it's stock is going down. The honeymoon is over, is all I'm saying. Wall Street bit into the hype but now that real numbers are sinking in, people are seeing the performance just doesn't warrant such a price. So people start selling. This triggers more selling, as people see the stock falling in value and want to get out before it goes lower.

      • Yes, in this thread I've also mentioned Google is overvalued and will normalize.

        • And I'm sure we'll be having this discussion again very soon on the eve of Apple's 30th.

          • Apple's not going anywhere.

And I mean that in both directions. They'll continue to be a niche player with bouts of success.

            • You know who else will continue to be a niche player with bouts of success? The Flames.

              • If by succcess, you mean stanely cups, then yes.

Apple is more like the Maple Leafs. They're always around, but they never do anything of note. They get eliminated before games start to matter.

And your troll is silly anyway: #1 selling NHL Jersey this and last season: Calgary Flames.

Because the past is a reliable guide to the future. In recent years Apple's stock has periodically dipped after major announcements. It has always regained its momentum after a couple of months. There's no reason to think that now is any different.

The other reason is that several important announcements that were set for MacWorld were not made because the products weren't quite ready. This is almost certainly true, as anyone who watched the keynote can tell. The demos at the Keynote were obviously stretched out in order to make up for the deleted items. If you don't believe me, find last year's iLife demo and compare the duration with this year's tedious and overlong borefest.

I'm guessing that the delayed stuff is Apple's foray into media centres or something else to do with video. Whatever it is may in the end fail, but it's a good bet. Jobs has made several daring moves in the last six years (music, iPods, branded stores, OS change) and only one (the Cube) has been a real failure. That's a pretty startling success rate. Typically, I thought that the Cube was the best idea, which shows why I would make a crap stockbroker (I still think that it is the coolest computer ever made though).

If Apple does release such products in the next few months, you can be sure that – assuming that there is not a general tech stock meltdown – the stock will be touching $90 a share.

                  • Other bets...

How long before Jobs is effectively in charge of Disney?

edit: you can now buy The Old Mill from the iTunes Store. That is my favourite Disney short by a long way. I love it.

                    • Or, for something more interesting (and realistic)...

What will Jobs do with the money he'll reap from it? Try to repeat the successful gamble he had with Pixar?

Jobs doesn't need to do that to impress women.
