South american nations often have significant racial issues between those primarily spanish, and those primarily native american. Roman = Spanish here, and the Spanish are typically the upper classes. Chavez may simply be spreading racial hate that way.

Not that it's any better; I see no difference between trying to get his people to hate jews, and trying to get most of his people to hate the spanish-descended. Either way he's a) pandering to the LCD and b) an evil racist $%$#.

there's nothing in his past rhetoric to suggest Chavez is anti-semitic... why all of a sudden he would do this is beyond me... the only explanation is maybe he wants to score points with Iran and he's making some ambiguous statements that the Iranian president is going to eat up.

But I don't think Chavez is a racist. At worst, he just made these remarks to score points with Iran.
