Read a f*cking book on Anthropology. Individualism is against human nature. most primitive societies are very communitarian.

Communism failed because it was based on EVERTHING being centrally planned. Violent revolution always causes a backlash, which is why the USSR fell into dictatorship. The form of socialism I support is based on co-ops and prefers the ballot box to violence.

Everything you just said about communism and socialism also applies to another ideological system, one which is all about abnegating the self and doing only for others.

Congratulations: you're now bashing Christianity! Well done!

Not at all. The God of the Catholics and Episcopalians is the same as the God of the Evangelical bible thumpers. The differences between liberals and conservatives can be found in any denomination.

Catholics themselves recognise other Christians as separated brethren, although it is also true that this is a change from the Second Vatican Council. So while they are not in full communion, they are very much our brothers and sisters in Christ.
It's one of the reasons....and I was pointing out how none of the groups listed were actually Episcopalian. And I'm sorry, but evangelical Christians typically believe that us Catholics and Episcopalians are just going to hell for our beliefs. It's retarded how many times I get told this. I'm sorry, but some of these people really need to read the Bible a bit more and realize it can't be completely literal.

Unfortunetly, that's not going to happen anytime soon. Some Protestant sects can really be obnoxious about that sort of thing, especially the whole Catholics are really going to Hell bit.

Maybe I should call up FOX and complain that The O'Reilly Factor is "bigotry against Liberals" or somesuch bull****.

No, wait, I have an easier solution: I don't watch that crap.

E, gads! Maybe I'm onto something.

The worst is the argument that Catholics aren't evangelical in the right way. Like helping out in local communities and being one of the main sources of money for helping out Texas/LA/Mississippi from the hurricane isn't good enough.

Kind of like how Bare Back Mountain was all about making money? Or how about the amazingly successful Syriana?

I don't know. I've had some good friends cast me out because I decided to convert to Catholicism, which really hurt me, and one friend that returned at Christmas who said Catholics were statue worshippers. It bothers me more that someone teaches this more then hearing them say what they have been taught.

Perhaps I am rather different. I always have been close to many Catholics since I became a Christian, in fact I went to a Catholic church before I ever stepped foot in a Mennonite one. I always found my Catholic friends willing to share their beliefs and to be patient with me.

What they need to understand first of all is that evangelical is a certain mindset that emphasises missionary work, and equipping believers to share and defend their faith in the public sphere. There are Catholics who have an evangelical mindset, even as they acknowledge their commitment to the Catholic church.

Nothing happens in a vacuum. The recognition of other Christians as seperate from unbelievers is a recent change in the position of the Catholic church. So part of this is a reaction to the position of the Catholics that all these Protestants and Evangelicals will be going to hell as heretics.

What were you before you were a Christian, BK?

ML needs to remember that while 75% of Americans are Christians, the majority off Christians don't have a stick up their ass like a certain, vocal minority of Pharisees who likes to pretend that they are the only Christians.

Good question. Probably a scientific materialist. I didn't believe in the existence of a spiritual world, and I believed that science had all the answers.

I was still very much a rational absolutist, the difference was the source of knowledge through empirical means, rather then revelation.

I'm an atheist myself so don't get me mixed up with Christians. In fact I have one of the most negative views of life you will ever find which is one reason why I support Christianity.

Reporting from the deepest pits of the Bible Belt, I doubt a third of the people that live here go to church regularly. I could be wrong but that is My Honest Feeling.
