  • Can anyone explain to me why Reina was sent off today?

The tackle he did was a great one (if waist-high, but not endangering the other player), yet a free kick was given. It seems that he hit Robben on his way to protest with the ref at the free kick, but I didn't see that on the telly. Not that I was staring at hot women in the pub or anything.

    • He pushed Robben (who went down like girl). I've no complaints with the sending off but the linesman should have seen the handball. Are they referees assistants or not???

      • Toon "star" () Albert Luque also left the stadium on Saturday, but the official line is that he's not another Sol Campbell. Apparently when he learned that he hadn't even made the bench for the Portsmouth game, he asked Roeder for permission to go home, and this was granted.

Way to support the team Luque!

The (rumored) full story is that one of Luque's family was recently in an accident and since he wasn't going to be play, he wanted to be with his relative.

          • well, I attended the quarter finals of the Swiss cup, and watched the most pathetic team in the nation beat my team. The team in question is Wintertur FC, a Challenge league (2nd division) team from the suburbs of Zurich. In the first half, they were completely dominated by Servette FC (a 1ere division [3rd division]) team. The first half ended with 0 - 0. In the 50th, a player for Servette gets his second yellow card (the first one was unjustified) and he's gone. So you would think that Wintertur would dominate right? No. At 10 vs 11, Servette still dominated and put a ball off the post and created all the great chances.

It ends in a 0 - 0 tie, so weve got overtime. The swiss german ref, who already had given out unjustified yellow cards, decided that he had to have his swiss german team win, so he gives a direct red card on a play that might not even merit a yellow card to a servette player. Now at 9 vs. 11, servette folds, and loses 3 - 1 in overtime.

Meanwhile, players from Wintertur are giving the finger to Servette fans, (the game was a home game for us) , fans are running onto the field yelling at the ref, the ref tries to end the match because there was such outrage after the second yellow, but is physically restrained from leaving by a player from Servette (who oddly, doesnt get a red card for that action). Riot police are brought out at the end to prevent anything from happening to the refs or opposing team.

In the end, he had given out 8 yellows to FC wintertur, 4 yellows and 2 reds to Servette.

Lets nip this in the bud, how is Imran going to learn if we have Europeans posting like this???

Its a "draw" not a "tie" and its "extra time" not "overtime".....

              • Furthermore, a "play" is handmelon talk. You mean a "foul"/"tackle"/"almighty kick in the knackers"/"Roy Keane".

Sounds like a classic game though.
Ah... the romance of the cup!

my bad I'll blame it on the fact that I translated poorly from french to american english instead of to british english, which should be used at all times for football talk.

                    • fixture?

Game, or at a push, match.

                      Unlucky mate.

Sorry Lawrence, your English is great. I have trouble talking footie in French, despite the fact I already know Guy Roux may be a decent manager, but he's a rubbish pundit.

You've missed the memo, mates, we Amis are taking over .

When we actually start caring about the game, you'll be talking just like us.

Yeah, Robben is never gonna recover from it, scarred for life, he is.

                              • a decision on what sanctions to take against turkey for their assaults on swiss players should be taken either today, or tomorrow.
