It's so funny hearing American Soccer talk, it's a totally different language.
Another shut-out for whoever the keeper was....

It's not Imran specifically... it's just the difference in language.
Watching late night MLS (when I was a student and could stay up all night getting stoned and watching foriegn football) was hillarious. So many stats and percentages and odd phrases like keepers having .67 shut-outs on the road and stuff.

yeah, americans try to add stats to everything. it comes from baseball, a statistic based game. and then they discover soccer and try to add statistics to everything, but it doesnt work. In fact, there arn't really any individual stats that you can point out other than goals and assists in soccer, and it still doesnt tell you what kind of player he is.

When it comes to (insignificant) stats, BBC (the English) pawn all.

Well I think most stats used in the MLS come from Hockey. Like Goals Against Average and things like that.
And it's a squad, damn you

Is Reading's Bobby Convey in the running for a world cup spot?

thankfullly not! but the team I follow (Servette FC) is in the 1st Division (3rd league, no contracts for players) , and they've only televised one game this year (Swiss cup, round of 16 vs. FC Thun) However, Servette has lost only one game this year, is in first place, and could move up to the Challenge League (2nd league, professionals) if they continute.
This saturday, they are playing in the Swiss Cup quarterfinals vs. FC Winterthur, a challenge league team.
As you may know, Servette was a Super League team (1st league), until a frenchman from across the border ran them into the ground financially, and they had to declare bankruptcy and start over in the 1st division (3rd league)
Its cool though, there is one player on Servette who plays for the M20 internationals, and hes pretty good. The real problem is that he can leave, and the club gets very little compensation (unlike say Senderos, or Frey, who they were able to sell to big clubs for good money)
In two years, we are back in europe (UEFA or Champions league)

two stories today in the paper which i really liked.
reading striker dave kitson has ruled himself out of playing for ireland, because he's not irish! he qualifies through a grandparent but says that his parents are english and so is he and therefore doesn't want to represent another country, a very refreshing attitude
dj campbell. just over a year ago he was playing in the ryman league with yeading, he stared in an FA cup 3rd round tie with newcastle and earned a move up the road to league 1 brentford. after a slow start he adapted to the pace of league football and has banged in 8 goals in his last six games, including two to dump sunderland out the FA cup on saturday. yesterday on the last day of the transfer window he completed a shock £500,000 move to birmingham city, at the tender age of 24!

I don't think so. Arena likes to use him once in a while in WCQ, but he hasn't been a fixture. Unless his game at Reading has improved lately.
