Sig worthy comment, sava. What does it say when the very first person to throw insults is a self-proclaimed liberal?
It's not an insult but rather a statement of fact.

Reform the hirings process to favour merit and not ideological purity.
There is no evidence that there is a bias against conservatives in any departments. And for your example I think both would have an equal chance, I believe most professors can take their beliefs out of their choices. And what about hard sciences where liberals still outnumber conservatives about 6:1, your ideology should have nothing to do in your application to get to grad school of hard science.

That all conservatives are ignorant and closeminded? Sounds like a little bit of prejudice here, sava. Surely you haven't met every single conservative.

yeah, well, about 1/6 of all people at school going age are liberal... It ain't until the real world influences them that they become sane enough to become a conservative.

Let's take a step back here. Suppose you are a good liberal and believe in equality and diversity. Wouldn't you say that if blacks were only represented as professors with one-sixth of their proportion in the population, that they had a bias against them? That systematic discrimination existed against blacks? Why then do you say that you believe both have an equal chance, when the numbers are so far out of whack?

I don't recall ever saying "all" conservatives are ignorant and closeminded.

Reread my earlier post and hopefully you can understand things better.

Because you would have to look at how many liberals apply vs how many conservatives apply to grad school and how many were accepted. Also, Blacks to white ratio in academia are pretty lopsided too, factoring in population, would you say thats bias against blacks or is it for some other factor, I would say for some other reason. I encourage you to read this article http://www.ssc.wisc.edu/econ/archive/wp2005-08.pdf

Conservatives are greedy. They value money over the pursuit of knowledge (and the relative freedom of academia).

Indeed. My friends over at the exact sciences are mostly rightwing ****ers that admit freely that they don't read much, journals nor books and they know nothing of the world. And a lot of them vote for our racist separatist party. That said, they are however quite clever and intelligent, but they use that solely for their study. All they think of is studying something so they can get rich later on.

And my friends in archaeology or humane sciences, that sort of things are exactly the opposite..

I've never seen bias against conservatives in the departments I've worked in (medicine, microbiology) in three different countries but we're definitely in the minority. Why is that? I dunno but I do note that the majority of those that are conservative have had a life before academia.

' to be a conservative, requires a strong commitment to', is the same as saying, by definition, conservatives are...

My reading comprehension is just fine sava. Maybe you meant something else, but that is what you wrote
