At the school that I work at, we have about 35% to 40% Latino. Most of the Latino out on the grounds speak Spanish, but we do have several teacher that also speak Spanish.

This is the part that pisses me off:

Since then, the suspension of Zach Rubio has become the talk of the town in both English and Spanish newspapers and radio shows. The school district has officially rescinded his punishment and said that speaking a foreign language is not grounds for suspension. Meanwhile, the Rubio family has retained a lawyer, who says a civil rights lawsuit may be in the offing.

A civil rights lawsuit? For what? Not getting thrown out of school?

The father went in, kicked the principals ass, has the school board agree with him.

        Great!

But now, starts seeing those and decide he may want to sue.

It would, IMHO, be a frivolous lawsuit.

I see internet jerks in FPS etc shouting at other players ''SPEAK ENGLISH''. Its rude!

I thought they were just spontaneously idiotic, but it seems they learnt it from another generation after all.

The lawsuit is not frivolous- the fear of litigation will make other dumbasses think beforte they do something this stupid. Its sad, but in American, its fear of getting sued that keeps so many moronic tendencies at bay.

Do you really believe that is why they would sue?

NO, it isn't the reason the father will sue. But the father does have a case. Even if he "won" the issue at the end, he still has the right to sue for it happening in the first place.

The point is, its sad but true, that fear of lawsuits is one of the main checks for institutional idiociy in this country.

Here's where it's great to have contingency fee plaintiffs' attorneys.

This kid missed -- what? -- a day or two of school??
Assuming a jury found liablity, how much do you think that's worth?
If you're an attorney working for 1/3 of whatever it is you recover, would you spend your time pursuing this case?

Mark my words, this is one case which will never get filed. (Or if it is, you can bet the prayerbook that the attorney is getting an hourly fee )

Japher is hereby upgraded from likeable troll to bigotted nutball.

Does the rest of the US use Kansas as a dumping ground for retarded cretins or something? Or are there just nazigens in the water?

What's wrong with bilingual education, BTW? Last I heard, minority kids that got tuition both in their native language and the majority language learnt the majority language better than those who got in the majority language only.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

But that conversation turned out to be a big problem for the staff at the Endeavor Alternative School, a small public high school in an ethnically mixed blue-collar neighborhood.
Alternative school is what they call school with kids who are always fighting and threatening to blow peoples' heads off and bringing chainsaws to school, etc. After so much disrupting a normal high school, you get sentenced to the remainder of a semester, or a whole year, or whatever, at the A school (or you've already been tossing crap around and you could just go there permanently). I've never been, but presumably they've somehow made it worse than our regular high school (maybe the seats give you electric shocks every few minutes, or they serve rat sandwiches. I dunno.)

So, unless things are different in Kansas, this guy was already on the school's bad side (you have to really screw up to get kicked out of an American high school).

However, the suspension is just about the most retarded thing I have ever heard of. I can straight-faced say "That would NEVER happen in Arkansas!," and that pretty much means Kansas has passed the point of no return as a hellhole...

Bilingual education is simply the best. Because that way you can speak fluently at least 2 languages and that's a big advantage in life.
In my country many French speaking parents send their kids to Flemish schools because first of all they are of superior quality, and secondly because that way they learn Flemish properly. It's good because in a tiny country like ours you really need both languages. And also it's a sign of respect too. I know some Walloons that prefer to learn English rather than Flemish (instead of learning both :doh, and that's absolutely absurd in my eyes.

I am against bilingual education, and I am against kids speaking spanish in a school where no one else understand what they are saying.
                                .....
That's ridiculous. How could you possibly justify it? It makes no sense. Would you like people to monitor the language in which these kids speak? Let me tell you something, the restriction of rights is not the way to assimilate. Israel, for example, tried that policy back in the 40's and 50's. All it created was a lot of hatred by the Sephardic (Middle Eastern) minority of the rest of the (white European) Ashkenazi population. And that's all restrictions such as these can ever create.
Calling a teacher an idiot will get you into trouble, but frankly kids will always think these things, saying them in Spanish is no different to saying it outside the classroom. It creates little room for insurbodination at all other than what would happen in a 'one language only' classroom.
Then again this could be a troll. But on such a silly topic?
