I think he means a major, recognized religion... if not "organized" perhaps "standardized." I mean, the Protestant Christian sects aren't really centralized - no central holy body - either.

But since I'm not Jon Miller, I'll leave it to him to clarify.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

I'm a non-denominational Christian and I would attend a gay community church here in town every Sunday if it were not for my cashier job at Super Target.

So, when I die and then arrive at the gates of Heaven, and Peter asks me why I didn't go to church every Sunday, I will have to say that I was busy handling money.

EDIT: I was originally raised as a Catholic.

You really can't tell from this sample population. Our posters here seem to be above average in intelligence (though they may not act like it sometimes ). And as a general rule, intelligent people are less religious and more athiest than the general population.

That of course depends on how you define intelligent.

Anyways, with respect to your opening post.

Are your beleifs the same as your parents?
No. My mother and father are nominal Christians, my mom was an Anglican and my dad was a Baptist. Even if they practiced, there are so many things we disagree upon with respect to the teachings of the church.

I like Catholicism, it makes much more sense then much of what my parents believe, and from what I see them do, I can't see that they really believe in much of what they say they agree with Christianity.

also for interest sake, did your parents change?
Actually, they have. My grandmother wondered why my dad would turn away from his church, and why my mom left hers. I know that the Anglican church up here is horrible, there are no young people that attend, and that my folks left their friends in Vancouver to find better work up here.

Dad told me the straw that broke the camel's back is when the minister in the Anglican church accused him of insulting the church when he chose not to take the eucharist! I was shocked when he told me that then, but in one sense it doesn't surprise me to see the lack of understanding.

My mother on the other hand, I don't know what caused her to leave since this was her church they used to attend.

A flawed presumption -- which implies that intelligence and religious faith tend to be exclusive of one another, when in actuality, they are not exclusive of one another.

            If I sound like BK in this post . . . . .

atheist/agnostic, and I am an atheist.

Religion played no role in my upbringing, thankfully.

                  As for politically

Socialist + centrist liberalism, and I guess I count as left in general, thought I run the gamut issue wise.
