"Moderate" Republicans... how many are really left, and do any of them have balls?

I'm assuming that McCain doesn't count, because he's not really all that moderate (just sane and reasonable, but quite conservative).

Well Specter is a moderate republican, and he pretty important. He has also had some words with the "radical right".

The moderates aren't spoiling for a fight, so I wonder what the social conservatives are going to have to give in return, since they want to rumble so badly.

Even the political compass ranks me as more libertarian than authoritarian. Guess I'm not a conservative then.

Smart political move by Bush. Nothing better he could do to take media coverage away from the Iraq war deaths and the Plame investigation, and get the coverage instead of a nasty partisan fight.

The social conservatives were spoiling for a fight, and Roberts was sort of a letdown on that score, so hey, let's attack our own president.

So you basically feel it's unacceptable to the vociferously degree with the President in public over an issue of high importance? Would you be as equally angry were Republicans to start going after Bush and demanding he cut his profligate spending? Do you think it is equally horrible when Republicans objected when Bush put up an unqualified crony for the Justice Department's Immigration and Customs Enforcement? Or when moderates such as Hagel or McCain criticize Bush's handling of the Iraq war?

actually, it is true... many so called "conservatives" are not conservative at all... they ARE right-wing authoritarian...

if they were truly conservative, they would want the government to stay the hell out of people's personal lives...

it is very obvious... look at the support for Patriot Act, the movement to discriminate against gay people and the movement to destroy women's access to reproductive health care...

what is conservative about that? it is a desire to CONTROL people... driven by bigotry and ignorance

The Dems fillibuster, causing the Republican leadership to try to use the Nuclear Option, the moderate Republicans kill the Nuclear option, and the Far Right is humilliated.

All those tests fail be because of the compiling factor. If half of your views are radically left, and half of them are radically right, you come out as a centrist. For a true centrist like me, that's actually offensive.
