    • So exposing covert CIA operations is ok as long as you agree with the results. Thought so.

Yeah, context is occasionally important in criminal matters. Funny idea, that. Or should killing in self-defense be treated identically to premeditated killing?

      • It's funny when Reactionaries know they're wrong and pwn3d, they will attempt to:

        1) Attack the person as having something wrong with them (almost always a moral issue)

        2) Try and establish inconsistency of thought even when it lacks context or makes no sense whatsoever (This can also be a part of number one)

Somehow they think if they sidetrack the issue to the person involved it will make it go away. But it just makes them look desparate.

          What a completely irrelevant post...

Why not just admit that you only care about the secrecy of CIA operations when doing so hurts your political opponents? It's blatantly obvious already and there's not much shame in it. You certainly aren't the only one who feels that way.

          • I only care about the secrecy of CIA operations when said CIA operation is morally (and legally, but that's a secondary concern) valid. Plame was involved in gathering information to prevent WMD's proliferation, while these secret prisons are ways for Dear Leader to usurp due process. Plame was outed to smear her husband because he called the Administration on its lies, while these prisons were likely outed to bring about the end of such an egregious breach of everything that we should stand for. I know this is an alien thought to right wing hacks like yourself, but some people actually like the idea of due process.

            • If you really want to torture people, show them Bush's speeches and interviews. I'd tell you anything to make it stop.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

              • GOP senator criticizes White House torture stance

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A leading Republican senator said Sunday that the Bush administration is making "a terrible mistake" in opposing a congressional ban on torture and other inhuman treatment of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, considered a potential presidential candidate in 2008, said many Republican senators support the ban proposed by Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War.

If you consider that an insult, you need help.

                      • Why would you think it was an insult? It was a neutral statement of fact.

By all accounts Gotmo isn't a picnic but neither is it real oldfashioned torture. They use tactics like sleep deprevasion, sensory deprevasion, and other dirty tactics but not the things like the rack which people commonly associate with the word torture.

I'd still like to see these tactics retired and McCain's bill passed without a bunch of loopholes being added but the claims that former detainees need constent medical care just smack of untruth.
I would have thought you'd have had a taste of those techniques, having been in the army. Still when you 'play at it' for training purposes i think it would play on your mind diferently.
I've seen plenty of the recent 'celebraties/sports people going through SAS type training' tv programs on tv recently, and seen how quickly you can reduce someone to a sniveling wreck with those techniques.

Now if 'I'(insert yourselves for the empathy) was actualy taken to a place like gitmo - to suffer this for years, never thinking that anyone would be able to get me out, to worry that they may well execute 'me' on some charges i may be innocent of.......well i think the mental trauma could be tougher than your giving it credit for?

For the guys in gitmo its for real, not training, not some dumb tv program with an ending, but possibly(in 'my' mind) eternal incarceration with all the 4star hotel trappings of 'lite' torture to look forward to.
Imagine if it was you that had been kiddnapped - as with most of the Britons, it appears it was with no real evidence against them. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How would 'you' feel if it happened to you in this way?

But i suppose that guys case could be one of trying to get money/compensation for his 2year holiday?
