bah.... FYROM, Macedonia.. Who cares? I mean, it's not like people are getting killed over it, no?
And of course you're being childish.

    As for the CIA Factbook:
conventional long form: Republic of Macedonia
conventional short form: Macedonia; note - the provisional designation used by the UN, EU, and NATO is Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM)
    local long form: Republika Makedonija
    local short form: Makedonija
former: People's Republic of Macedonia, Socialist Republic of Macedonia
Name it whatever you want, if Markos changes that, well he's childish, but everybody freaking out because of that is quite childish as well.

We could call it 'Makedonia' in English to distinguish further from ancient Macedon.

The Greeks could spell it 'Makentonia' or something.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Only, the Englishers will mispronounce the 'j' horribly.

The CIA file is inaccurate (as usual). Always take it with a grain of salt because it's not facts it portrays but american interests. (Divide and Conquer is one)

The country known as FYROM was created with the name Macedonia.
And in a very specific point in time. And for a very specific reason. Not that it matters now, but that was its (very recent) history.

They can both be correct, you know - the US recognizes it as the Republic of Macedonia, and the UN as FYROM. Somehow I doubt that mean old "American interests" are as much behind this as you think - maybe we're just nice enough to call the country what they want to be called.

Yes, 10 years ago. Interestingly, he never talked about Greeks or the whole name dispute.

Incidentally, that's why I have all the old style Macedonian flags in my room - not because I'm some Macedonian nationalist, I just still have them from back then as gifts.

Well of course. Because if he had he would have to explain

Indeed the Macedonian flag is great

Actually, his particular ire was reserved for Albanians, who he said were "only good for making babies and taking our land." Besides that comment, which my mother got quite angry at him for, he was a generally nice guy.

I think I have a baseball cap with that old flag too... I should wear it in Macedonia and then in Thessalonica, and see how badly I get my ass kicked.
