I've intensely disliked every Turk I've ever met.

        Also every Pole.

            Sure is.

But this time it's not just the Greeks. Nobody wants Turkey in. Except of course the U.S. and others, who would have the luxury of enjoying the show from a distance.

MarkG is just pointing out the obvious fact that Turkey's diplomatic stance is so preposterous, that they do not have a chance in hell to join the EU if they don't change their tune.

Why is it I envision MarkG's garage like the guy in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"?

You know, the garage has a huge Greek flag on it?

And don't forget the 4 English words either.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

On the contrary, recognising the Greek part of Cyprus was never officially demanded by the EU from Turkey for the membership negotiations to start.

                          Well, it's a club, if you don't meet the requirements, it's ta-ta.
The club in question created a situation in which it rewards one side to a conflict for refusing what everybody else accepted as a fair and balanced deal, and punishes the other, isolated, side for agreeing to reunification.

Is that why only Greece, for obvious reasons, and France and Austria, for other, debatable reasons support the Greek Cypriot perspective within the EU

I think Cyprus shouldn't have been allowed into EU before ending the northern Cyprus problem as well.
