  • I don't know...like I said, I'm not sure it really matters where the breach is, the lake has more than enough water to flood the whole city...

If its one of the north-south thingys used to drain the city, then they wouldn't have to plug the ever-widening gap. They'd just need to block off the outlet into the lake since the structure is still stable there.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

          • I reckon it's quite possible that the death toll will run above a hundred for this, though i guess it's a lot less than people were fearing yesterday.

              • CNN just finished talking to someone working at the Tulane hospital in downtown NO (the CBD) and says the breach is on the NO side of the levee and water is rushing down Canal Street, "white caps on the water" in her words. F***.

                  • And this is happening in the dead of night, so the response has to wait a few hours before any real effort can go into stopping water from flowing into the canal from the lake (or from the river, which ever it is supposed to drain into).

Edit: Looking at the full-size version of the pic Drake posted, apparently it supposed to drain into both the lake and the river...

yeah it was a pretty significant storm. No doubt about that. I just can't help but laugh when I hear about a storm killing tens of thousands in the U.S. Yes Hurricane Mitch did that to a 3rd world country. But we are no 3rd world country.

Though as I was flipping through channels on a Cowboy Bebop commercial break I noticed FAUX was going over the business impact. Anheiser-Busch (sp?) is already sending 10,000 boxes of clean bottled water to the area.
