Here's a story - from two anti-war marches in London prior to the 2003 Iraq invasion: My position is anti-interventionist generally rather than anti-that-war-in-particular. It is certainly not anti-Israel, as the organisers seemed to automatically assume everybody on the march was, or should be.
The first march mostly involved standing in a queue of about 2 million people on a hot September on the way to Hyde Park. Around Piccadilly Circus where the two great rivers of demonstrators met there were a gang of hotheads jumping up and down on a bus shelter, waving Palestinian flags, thumping their chests and generally doing that Big Angry number. I was p*ssed off, as I wasn't there to support that cause.
By the time we got to Hyde Park we'd missed the speakers, but on the second march a few months later there were less marchers and we got to Hyde Park in time for the speakers. However, as they were all people like Ken Livingstone and George Galloway, again we were assaulted by furious anti-Israeli invective.
Of course I didn't realise before then that the Stop The War Coalition was an alliance of the SWP and the Islamist MAB. The left think they are using the Islamists to fill the gaping hole in their own consituency, but in fact it's the other way round, and Islamists are using large sections of the Left (and even the establishment) to advance their agenda.
