Despite our colorful clashes, I have found myself in steadfast agreement at various times with Kid, Che, Aggie (the Red Brigade), and GePap....a strange, but not unpleasant feeling...

        A) Thanks for Spiff for one of the only normal posts in the thread!

        B) Spiff, I am more interested in the people that are of your own political affiliation, but they're DUM LOL. Those who argue with you, but their argument level makes it seem as if they're arguing against you.

                That would get me banned

Well, an anecdote. Dumbness is not exactly involved, but neither is smartness

During the referendum campaign, I was discussing with a voter who has all the bearings of a believer in the system (the pro-system people were all "Oui"). He was supportive of pretty much every economic aspect of the constitution, as he had a very capitalistic mindset. However, he was open to discussion, and there was one chance to make him change his mind by adressing how flawed the text was, from a legal perspective (extremely long and detailed, impossible to change in any meaningful way).

Another commie with whome I distributed the fliers comes mid-discussion and begins saying that the "Oui" will mean the death of our public services, that it will mean more competition and more delocalisations, etc...
Not only did that voter know full well that such statements were exagerated garbage (we agreed on such, as I had to look moderate to attempt to convince him), but he also agreed fullspeed with the phenomena that my colleague denounced. My colleague also took much time to make his horribly ordinary exposé, without letting neither him or me speak.

Useless to say, after such a long time, the voter wasn't up for continuing our previous discussion. He was also even more willing than before to vote "Oui"

                        Fixed.

I see it like this - the opinions of idiots and crackpots are essentially random; half of them are gonna be on my side on any issue no matter what.

What's worse is ending up on the same side as an articulate advocate of evil on some specific issue. I usually avenge myself by pointing out any minor logical inconsistencies in their arguments, on the pretext we ought not give out opponents any opportunities to attack us.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Yeah, I've had it, too, and it's really troublesome. What I usually do in these cases is to thoroughly bas the advocate of evil's position and ideology, to proceed and defend his position in the current debate.

In general, when someone on my side is posting something completely absurd (a sure pwnage), I prefer to avoid the thread. Occasionally I might try to explain him how to avoid further pwnage, but only if I feel it can work.

Leaving aside Poly, during the first Gulf War, the antiwar movement found itself frequently cringing when Nazis and LaRouchies, but I repeat myself, showed up with their banners against the war.
