Stability at the point of a gun is not what I have in mind.If by "work" you mean that there will eventually be one or more stable governments ruling what is now Iraq, then you're surely right. Stable governments are no big deal; Saudi Arabia, Iran, and North Korea all have them.
Dont know much about Muslims but I do know people from that part of the world and they aren't ingrates. You help them and they will need a helluva good reason to not support you in the future - its an honor thing. Bush the Elder stabbed them in the back in the name of stability, Bush the Younger liberated them.But the question is, will these governments be friends of the US, or enemies? Will they be buffers against Islamicist terrorism, or sources of it? Will the world be a safer place because they exist, or an even more dangerous one than it was when Saddam was around?
Time will tell, the way this war was bungled I have little faith in Bush. But now its in the hands of the Iraqis and I do have faith in them.And the biggie: did young men and women fight and die advancing US interests, or inadvertently setting them back? It seems very plausible right now, unfortunately, that the latter option is the likelier one in each of those questions.Comment
